Negro Woman, Lost
16 Days, Is Found
Oolenoy, Feb. 25. -Cora Hagood, the
negro who left her home the 6th inst.,
and for 16 days had wandered in the
mountains of Table Rock Cove, was
found last Thursday by a searching
party of 17 men. It will be remember
ed that she left hQme without telling
anyone of her intentions. She was
given breakfast on the morning of the
7th by Mrs. Floyd Masters. She statds
that this was the last food she had
tasted, but for a few acorns, during
her entire stay. When found she was
in a sitting posture and was able to
talk, tho in a rather weak voice, and
recognized the entire party and thanked
them very fervently for coming to her
rescue. She was unable to walk and
had it not been for the timely arrival
of the party death woul'l no doubt very
soon have claimed another victim only
a few vards from the spot where Floyd
Masters was found (lead two weeks ago.
She was carried to her home where Dr.
J. M. Crenshaw attended her. He
itates that tho her condition is critical
ihe will probably recover if given
proper food and attention. The affair
which sounds like fiction rather than
truth, has excited much interest, es
pecially so, since that she is alive, for
io one thought that human endurance
,ould withstand such exposure, with no
"ood, no fire and no covering. She says
,he slept a part, of the time int a rock
louse, in a large sfump, and beside it
-ock.
