PAUL'S DEFENSE BEFORE
AGRIPPA.
LESSON TEXT-Acts 26 (vv. 1, 24-32).

I. Paul, the Preacher (vv. 1-23).

personal experience. Paul stood be

nate argument. We might tremble at

which was equivalent to the miracle
of raising one from the grave.
wPaul's plea was for the Romnan as
well ts the Jew. Consdlering his per
1n testimony, the decarimt he
is a true Jew of the strictest sect (vy.
4-8), and as such lie lived in the
"hope of the promise" as predicted by
Isaiah and Daniel. That promise his
been fulfilled in Jesus, the crucified,
who rose again from the dead, and
Paul adds, "I have seen him, for
which hope's sake, King Agrippa, I
am accused of the Jews." (2) (vv. 9
15) Paul tells the audience that lie,
himself, vas once a zealous perse
cutor of the Christians, more so than
those who are now persecuting him,
"being exceedingly mad against
them." le then relates his Damascus

reception of Paul's message. The

way (vv-. 241-20) was to charge Paul
wIth madness. Much learning (literal
ly, many writings) was turning him
mad, making him a lunutic, a direamer,

wildi imiaginings. Paul's reply was
not harsh. "Mo(st noble Fest us" (Am.
11.) "I am not mad, but speak words-(of

aippeamls to King Agrippa to confim
his statements (v. 2-0). The crazy
