The Southern Bell Telephone
and Telegraph Co. has just -fin
ished making extensive im
provements in their plant in
Pickens. A force of linemen,

Considerably more tax money
has been collected by the county
breasurer this year than at- the
same time last year. Up to Jan
uarv 15 last year $50,000 in
round numbers had been collect
ed. Up to January 1 this year
about $105,000 had been collect
ed. Still more than half of the
tax receipts remain on the books.
A one per cent penalty is being
collected this month and a two
per cent.penalty will be collect
ed in February. After Febru
ary the penalty will be 7 per
cent until March 15, when the
tax books close.
