D. W. Hiott, in the Alice Mill village Sunday afternoon, November 28, Mr. Davis Porter and Miss Rosa Duncan. The young couple were from near Enon church. May happiness be theirs. Bennet H. Powers and Miss Nannie Porter were married at the residence of the officiating minister, Rev. 1). W. Hiott, in Pickens Thanksgiving after noon. The bride is a daughter of Mr, Henley Porter of near Pickens and is a young lady of charming manners and features. Mr. Powers was a candidate for treasurer of Pickens county last year and is well known all over the county. Married, by Rev. F. S. Child ress, at the home of the bride near Dacusville, November 28, Miss Blandina Arledge to Mr. Devanie Andrew Shields. of Try on, N. C' 'The wetding was a quiet home affair with only a few intimate friends present. After the ceremony the guests were ushered into the dininE room where an elaborate five course dinner was served. The ushers were Messrs. Lindsay Walker of Greenville and Rupert Farr of Dacusville and Misses Winifred and Bertha Render son of Tryon. Many beautiful presents were received by the bride who is a most popular young lady, a (laughter of Mr. and Mrs. N. A. Arledge. '4r. Shields is a prominent young man of Tryon. They will make their home in Weaverville, N. C., after March 1. The case of Henry S. Collins against the Western Union Tel Na h Co. has been settled by graph company paying lls $800. Carter: conference secretary of education, .J. R{. T. Major. Rev.L.W. Johnson was trans ferred from the Pickens circuit to Orville station, Anderson city. Mrs. Thomas P. Smith Dead After a lingering illness of several days in a most critical condition, Mrs. Thomas P.Smith died at her home in Easley Thursday, Nov. 25. Some few weeks ago she suffered a slight stroke of paralysis, and a second stroke on Saturday. Since that time her case was considered as hopeless and the end was hourly expected. Mrs. Smith, before her marri age, was Miss Malinda Boggs, sister of the late JuliusE.Boggs. She has long been a resident of this county and has both a large family connection and circle of friends. She was 63 years of age and a woman of extraordi nary Christian faith. She was a member of the Presbyterian church of Easley. Surviving are her husband, four sons, Julius, J., Ben and Barzillai; three daughters, Mes dames Will Ariail, Frank Day and Julia Fix. Mrs. H. I. Hor ton, of Columbia, is a sister of the deceased. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the residence. Pumpkintown News And so the Newberry Observer has been serving pumpkin-I: mean observing Pumpkintown.
