The Glassy Mountain school began Monday, with Mr. Lee teaching the school. Miss Verner Seal, of Green wood, is the attractive guest of Mrs. J. D Hughey. Mrs. S. * C. Templeton, of, Greenville, visited her sister,' Mrs. B. F. Parsons, last week. Nine young men stood the Clemson College entrance ex amination held here last Friday. Mr. Frank Day of the Tabor section gave the young folks an ice cream supper Saturday night. The first iipe home-grown watermelon we have heard of this -year came from Edd Bog'gs' patch July 4. There will be no preaching at the Presbyterian church Sun day. Rev. J. C. Bailey, pastor, will be out of the city. Dr. J. L. Bolt has manv friends in Pickens who would like to see him in the race either for the house or senate. A company of small boys came through Pickens last week en route to Jocasse valley. They came from Greenville and left here about 3 o'clock-. Miss Alma Bramlette left Wednesday for a few weeks visit to her uncle. Dr, Jewel at Easley and relatives at Pickens. - Greer cor, Greenville News. It is the opinion of many pe pe that C. L. Cureton of Pick ens would make one of the best' members of the legislature wei could send. What about run ning, Charlie? One of the most enjoyable' picnics of the season was given last Friday, at the Hollings worth place. The picnic was given by the young ladies of the Philathea class of the Baptist Sunday school. A party consisting of Ar. and Mrs. R. R. Scales, Messrs. E M. Moffet, Abner Cureton Iand Walter Scales, of Green ville, visited at the home of Mr. R. L. Davis last week. They enjoyed a fishing trip while here. J. Haskell Dendy, a well known citizen of RichlandI Oconee county, died at his home Friday, July 10. He was a brother of Prof. W. E. Dendy,I at one time principal of the Pickens school, but now of Monroe, Ga. "B o b" Griffin, familiarly known as "Major," died at the Greenville county alms house Saturday night. Bob is said to have been a native of Pickens county, and has made several trips to Pickens in his travels. He was well known in every town f r o in Spartanburg to Seneca on the Southern railroad, up and down which he traveled for many years. For the past several years he made his home in Greenville. About a year ago he was sent to the State hospital for the insane, but sub sequently released. Mrs. T. L. Bivins and children are spending a few days at Brown's. Town Creek school opens July 20th with Mr. Grover Keith as teacher. Bethlehem school will open July 20. Mrs. Sam Christopher and children, of Spartanburg, are in Pickens for the summer. Sheriff Roark turned into the county treasury last week over $1,300 delinquent taxes which he collected this year. Mesdames J. P. Attaway of Oswego and S. A. Curry of Simpsonville recently visited Mrs. B. H. Attaway in Pickens. Ben H. Hagood and family, o Charleston. have arrived in Pickens and will spend several months at their summer home here. The congregation of the Pres byterian church in Pickens is making arrangements to build a sidewalk fromthe Hollingsworth ouse to the church and make ther improvements around the hurch. R. B. Mauldin, the new man ager of the Easley laundry, was n Pickens Tuesday in the inter et of the laundry. This laun ry will send a wagon to Pick es twice each week, gathering p laundry every Tuesday and elivering on Friday.' Sheriff Roark and seve ral asley officers captured eight egro gamblers at the old amilton place, firve miles be ow Pickensville Saturday night. The prisoners were released on ond and will be tried before agistrate Jameson's court in asley. A crowd of more than fifty men from different sections of he county came to Pickens last Friday, it is said, for the pur pse of lynching the negro Floyd McCullum. However,the negro was not here, but had been car ried to Columbia, as stated in he Sentinel last week.
