Each high -school in the county will enter the contest with one con testant. As this is the first con test bf its kind ever held in the state, it is being watched witi great interest by many schools. The high schools of the coun ty will be represented by the fol lowing young ladies with their subjects: Miss Alice McClana ham. "The Whirligig of Life;" Miss Nell Crawford, "The Bridge;" Miss Bernice Hooker, "Citizenship:" Miss Margaret Carson."Justasthe Moon Rose;" and Miss Minnie Herd, "An Old Sweetheart of Mine." Mr. John Roper has purchas ed an Overland 5-passenger touring car and is preparing to join the speed demons: This makes about ten new automo biles for the town of Pickens this spring, and about 25 or 30 in all. The township board of asses sors of Pickens county met in the auditor's office Thursday, Friday and Saturday. No ma terial changes were made in the assessments. The county board of equalization will meet Satur day, 28th, to confirm the pro ceedings of the township boards and hear any grievances any tax payer wishes to present. The county board is composed of the chairmen of the town ship boards, and the chairman of each county board is a mem of the state board of equaliza tion. Preach at Old Pickens. Rev. I. N. Wallace of Seneca will preach at Old Pickens church next Sun day, March 29, at 11 o'clock. It is hoped to reorganize the Sunday school at that time. On last Tuesday the Tuesday afternoon club was most delight fully entertained at the beauti ful home of Mrs. Mv. C. Smith. After two hours of pleasant work a most delicious sweet course was served and all went away with a feeling that it was good to have been there. .Miss Mattie Finley left Pick ens last week for Easley, where she will be assistant milliner at rThe Battei-y.
