Washington.-The Democratic tariff
revd'eon 'hl, first on the program of
reforms mapped out when President
Wd-leon came into office, advanced to
Its dast congressioneA stage when the
Joint conference committee returned
it to the House -with the unanimous
endorsement of the Demooratic confe
rees. Leaders in ;both houses of Con
gress were confident the bill now
practically complete, w.ould be signed
by President Wilsin 'before the end .of
this week. It scarcely will leave .the
center of the stage before the cur
rency bill Is forced to the front and
coincident with its consideration will
begin the Admindetration work on the
anti-trust an.d railroad control pro
ream. Tilhese measures w.ill <be
brought forward when the December
session opens.
President Wilson is satisfied with
the tariff bill out of the way. Con
gress will take up the currency ques
tion and dispose of it before adjourn
ment. The course to be followed in
'the -Senate has not been mapped out,
'but -there is a growing belief among
supporters of the Administration bill
that tihe Senate w4ll take up the cur
rency question at an early date, even
though its Banking and -Currency
Committee :has not settled the meas
ure's details.
The tariff conference report 'went
to the House soon after that body
convened 'Monday. During 'the morn
ing the full conference committee
convened by Chairman Simmons, had
given the report arts 'formal approval.
Senators Simmons, Williams, John
son and Shively and 'Representatives
Underwood, Kitohin, Dixon and Rain
ey, the Democrats who have adjusted
all differences between the Senate and
House excepting only the cot-ton fu
tures tax propoettion, signed the final
report, while the Republican and Pro
gressive members declined to sign.

pertment mindmized the importance of
the 'firing on United Stales soldiers
near El Paso by Mexicans when it
was learned in- a report from Gen.
Bliss, commanding the Jnited States
'border -pa'trol, that the Mexicans were
not in imnilfornm. Gen. Bliss said that
the half dozen Mexicans who fired the
shots h'ad been celebrat-ing at San EHi
zario and -were said to be intoxicated.
