Prof. Daniels, of Clemsun College, delivered an address
?before the graduating .class of the Pickens High Scldt a
short while ago. At the beginning of his address he said
from the smallest insect on-up to the larger animals it was eat
or be eaten.
He paid a beautiful tribute to the old Confederate veter
ans who faced the hardships during the sixtiLs and fought for
what they thought to be right. He said we all hoped to see
the day when war would be no more--when troubles and dif
ferences would be settled by arbitration. He said
not cease so long as nations remained in d ess: that war
was the only way to restore peace witl h nations.
He said that it took more--age for W. J. Bryan to
make a move to drive.t-' the "plutocrats" at the Baltimore
convention tha;'rif-did to shoulder arms and go to war. He
said Roosevelt was a fighter in the truest sense. He spoke
of the courage it took for him to make a speech at Chicago
with a bullet in his body.
What -he wanted to impress upon the people was, if you
get far in life you have to ffght. for it.
Ralpit Gilstrap won a noble fight last year in prpducing.
the largest yield of corn on a single acre of land in Pickens
county. That corn did not grow alone, either.
By the way, we may not have as much to fight for as Mi.
Bryan or Col. Roosevelt, but we are putting up a pretty good
fight for a better egg market in Pickens. Don't use us as a
prize to pull the other fellow up, and sell to the other fellow.
Patronize the one who holds up the price. Don't use us just -
to keep you posted on the market. Take care of the one
who takes care of you. Come to see us,
