a new 3chedule of rates for electric
light which will neither raise nor low
er bill of the average snr.H consum
er, but will lower very matf.rvilly the
cost of light for the middle class of
consumers, who are represented by
the business houses, and raise very
slightly charges for the largest con
sumers, of whom thorp are not moro
than two or three in the city, is to be
.decided In tho next few days. Coun
cil took the matter under advisement

H. A. Orr of the Anderson .branch bf
the Southern Public Utilities company
before council at a special meeting
convened yesterday afternoon at 3:3p
o'clock tn council chamber.
In appearing before council Mr.
Orr stated, that under .the. franchise
held by the Southern Public Utilities
company Anderson was.entitled to the
same ratea for light as' any other
city in the Carolinas lu which hi's
company operatea. Beginning April
I, he stated, a new schedule of ratea
wat going to be put into effect in thc
city r.t Charlotte. This new achedul?

Mr. Orr submitted comparative
schedules anf diagrams showing the
present rates and the proposed new

ever, spent the nlgbt in Spartanburg
and returned to Anderson later In

W. H. Fraser commented yesterday

The iirogram for the evening on
which Dr. .Myor-Gerhardt will lecture
here on "German and the War" was
announced yesterday and show? that
i'"ils will be one of the most interest

Anderson in quite a while.
Dr. Myer-Gerhardt waa for years
a resident of llerllu. He la being sent
out by the German Infr matloa
Bureau of New York City, and has
delivered lecturer, throughout the
eastern half of the United States. He

of the' war. He will arrive lu Ander
son next Thursday morning and will
speak that night at the chamber of
commerce promptly at 8 o'clock.
The program will be opened with
prayer by the Rev. Dr. W. H. Fraz
er, pastor of the First Presbyterian
church. The speaker of the evening
will be Introduced by Gen. M. L.
Bonham. Members of the chamber of
commerce and the civic league are
especially urgfil to attend this meet
ing, and the general public Is, of
course, cordially invited.

the chamber of commerce, under
whose auspices Dr. .Myer-Gerhardt is
being brought' to Anderson, are ob
serving strict neutrality in bringing
this speaker to Anderson, for they

The general committee' in charge of
plans for clean-up and paint-up week,
which will be observed in A?r'erson
April 19-24 inclusive, announced yes
terday that a number of lancera elides
appropriate to the campaign had been
recured and would be shown for the
beneft of the school children of the
city at Th? Anderson theatre next
Tuesday morning. The titles of the
slides are: pay 'vision, tuberculosis,
athletics, out of doors and boy
scouts. One reel ot comedy motion

The 2,400 white school children of
'the city will he divided into three sec
tions ot 800 each, when they go to
the theatre Tuesday morning to view
the pictures. Group No. 1, will at
tend the theatre at 10 a. m.; group
No. 2 at 10:45 a. m. and group No.
3 at 11:30 a. m.
