TODAY AT THE LESSER CO.] ARGUMENTS COMPLETED IN] CASE OF BURRISS VS BURRISS SOO ACRES OF LAND Involved In Will Case Which Was1 Concluded Yesterday-A Short Term. Arguments having been concluded In tbe case of William M. Bur risa versus J. L. Burlies et al, the spring term of thc .court of common pleas tor Anderson county was adjourned yesterday afternoon at 12:15 o'clock. Judge Frank B. Gary, who convened the session of court on Monday took tbe papers in this case under advise ment and returned to his home at Ab beville yesterday afternoon. . The case of Burriss aalnst Burris.! was all that remained on the docket to bo near a when the first day of the term of court recessed early Monday afternoon. Arguments in tbe matter were begun yesterday morning. Col. J. N. Brown appearing for tho plain tiffs and T. Frank Watkins and J. P. Cary, of PIcken3, appearing for the defendants. The facts in the case are about as follows: Miss Julia Burris, the only I child of the late W. It. Burriss, own- ; er cf some GOO acres of land near j Roberts church, married Mr. J. I,. Burri3s. She died last May and her ; husband, J. L. harriss, is heir to the . land under a will left by her. Now j the cousins of Mrs. J. L. Burriss, about 31 in number, have come for ward and are asking that the will of Mrs. J. L. Burriss be set aside, claiming that under the original will of her father, the late W, R. Burriss, she had only a life interest in the estate, and could not therefore, will the property. J. L. Burriss, heir un der his wtfe's will, is also one of the heirs under the contentions of his wife's cousin, tor he. too, war a cousin. This was one of the shortest terms ol? court on record for this circuit bein in session altogether about one day. Turn About Fair Play. Plans are being perfected for an "Anderson car" to Houston. Texas. ?on account of the Southern Baptist I convention, which will be held next montli in the Texas city. It is pro I posed to operate the car out of An derson on the Blue Ridge Railroad, leaving here at 11:50 o'clock on the morning of May 10, and run lt to Seneca, where it will be attached to a train for New Orleuus, from whence it Will be taken on to Houston. A similar car will be operated t from Greenville on the same schedule, lt is probable that there will be a con siderable sized delegation from An derson going to the convention. Farmers Union Held Meeting. - The regular monthly meeting of the Anderson County Farmers Union was held yesterday noon in the grand jury room of the court hpusc. The attendance was small and little busi ness was transacted. Nothiug for publlcatlon regarding the meeting was given out. .Hare Moved to Sunset Forest. Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Fret well and their daughter have moved to their summer home. Sunset Forest, three miles or more west of the city, dur ing Ute spring a number of improve ments have been made in the beautiful estate, which was already one of the handsomest . in this section of the country. Preaching nt Two Country Churches. There wll be preaching next Sun day morning at Mountain Creek church at ll o'clock by thc pastor, the Rev. W. B. Hawkins. The subject of the sermon will be "The Threefold Communion." Entertainment At The MeLe?s School. . Saturday evening next the McLees Behool house will bo thrown open all of the friends of the school. On this occasion different amusements will bc furnished to entertain the crowd Among the features of tho program will be a cake walk. Ice cream and cake will be sold. To prepare plans for the centennial j celebration of the founding of Ver ennes Church, which will take place on April 28, a short meeting of the Presbytery will be held tomorrow. Final Payment On Apto Pire Truck. The final paymeut on the automo bile fire truck was mude yesterday morning by city clerk and treasurer E. M. Scott, which was purchased by I city council April 10, 1911, after lt had I been on approval for 30 days. A cash j payment of $2,500 and three notes for $1,000 each, bearing simple interest at the rate of 6 per cent and maturing in one, two and three years elosoa the deal. Hie last of the three notes was paid yesterday morning. Fire Chlor Jackson is of the opinion that the truck has more than paid for itself during tho four years the city has had it. During the four years the truck has been in use it has cost the city but $270 for repairs. During these four years the city has received from the State insurance department approx mately $2,500, so the city really has only about $3,500 invested In the I .truck.
