NEWCOMER HERE
I J. W. Field? Bein? Held tn De

$200.-Particular*.
Charged with Issuing a bogus check
to cover an alleged shortage in trust
tunda and charged on a second war
rant with disposing of trust funds, J.
W. Fields, an agent for a life Insur
ance Company in Anderson was arrest
ed yesterday morning by Deputy
Sheriff Olin Sanders and placed in the
county Jail, where he is being held tn
default of bond in the sum of $200.
Fields comes from a well known
family of Spartanburg, and, from what
can be learned, has been in *he city
only a short while. He has every ap
pearance ot being refined. Intelligent
and fairly well educated. The warrant
for the arrest of the man was issued
by L. L? Bradley, upon Instructions
from the company for which Fields
worked, lt ls stated:
The first warrant allege* that Fields
collected premiums due on policies In
this insurance company and appropri
ated the money to his own use. The
second warrant alleges that ho gave a
bogus check to' cover a shortage In
trust funds. . ' ' '
A rather strange fact about the al
leged bogus check is that in the Tower
left hand corner of lt is written the
words: "Shortage on Collaetlona." The
check was drawn lu favor of the In
surance company on a local bank. The
amount of the check ls $22.30.

PLANS FOB PACKING

ARE BEING DRAWN FOR THE
CHAMBER OF COMMERCE'S
INFORMATION
MAY BUILD ONE

Be Established.
The ChPuiber ot -Commerce is in
receipt ni a communication from
PackcrF Architectural Sc Engineering
.company, engineers designing pack
ing planta, abattoirs, cold storages
pud industrial plants, with offices in
Chicago, stating that work is pro
greaalnv nicely on drawing for a $360,
000 packing plant for Anderson. This
does not mean, however, that it is a
cut and dried fact that such a pack
ing plant ls to be erected here right
away. The Chamber of Commerce de
sires these plans as information only,
for the present.
It ls not improbable that if the rais
ing of live stock In this section ol
tbe country continues to Increase
during .Ute next- three of four yeera j
like the industry baa within tho peat
three or four years there will be suffi, |
clent live stock within a radius of
160 miles of this city to warrant, tbe
erection here. of a small packing
plant. If thia tuena out to be the
case- it is likely that the.chamber of
commerce will undertake the promo
tion . ot each on enterprise. ?
8. A, Jacobson of Wisconsin hes
written the chamber of commerce that
be will likely be in this city during the
month of March for the purpose of dis
cussing with local people the pros
pects for a packing pant at this
place.
For tho past several months the
chamber of commerce has been col
lecting data with reference to the
amount of live stock being raised
Within a radius of 160 miles ot An
derson, the prospects for the indus
try ?being increased," freight rates
from various points within this
radius, etc This data, lt ts stated,
will be of value to the chamber of
