THE METHODS
Contribution Envelopes Will Be
Distributed Among: the Con
gregations.
In all churches of the city and sev
eral in the country an appeal will
be made today for assistance for the
distressed Belgian sufferers. Envel
opes In which donations may be plac
ed will be distributed among the con
gregations by committees appointed
for that purpose. Ti 1 ese envelopes
will be gathered by the committee
men and by them turned over to the
pastora, who will meet at the cham
ber of commerce next Friday night
and count the results of the campaign.
Yesterday some 2.000 subscription
envelopea were placed with the pas
tors of the various churches of the
city, while Sunday Behool superinten
dents bf some of the country churches
called for them.. ti is hoped that in
this way a substantial sum can be
raised for. Anderson contribution to
the South Carolina Belgian Relief
Fund.
The money which will be taken in

at the residence of Judge and Mrs.
W. F. Cox next Tuesday night, the
proceeds sf which will be given tc j
the Belgian Relief Fond. The Para
mount .theatre, which had Its formal
opening yesterday, will give all of its
forenoon receipts, and 50 per cent of
thc afternoon and evening receipts to
the cause.
At the meeting of the committee
having this matter in charge will be
held at the chamber of commerce next
Friday when the amount of money
money collected will be determined.
The result will be telesraphed to
headquarters of tho Belgian relief
Fund in New York city that night.

confessed to the killing of Cyrus

the grand jury to meet In special ses
sion next Wednesday to investigate
the lynchings.

ton market maintained a very good,
tene.throughtjt today's session, clos
ing Arm at a net gain for the day of

steadier today. The selling which fol
lowed the publication of the govern
ment's estimate appeared to have run
its course on the decline to about
7 l-4c for May contracts yesterday,
and prices rallied several points today
uncovering. Liverpool and Wall Street
buying, with the close steady at a net
advance of 9 to 13 points.
For the first time since the begin
ning of the season the amount of cot
ton reported on shipboard awaiting
clearance at the close of the week was
In excess of last year, und advices re
ceived from Galveston indicate that
no less than 64 steamers are schedul
ed to sall from that port during De
cember and January with cotton or
part cotton cargoes. This was taken
as pointing to a further Improvement
in the export movement which for the
past two or time weeks has been
