DAY FOR RETURNING
OF THANKS ARRIVES
OCCASION WILL BE OBSERV
ED IN THE USUAL, MAN
NER IN ANDERSON
CHURCH SERVICES
VVOI Be Held at 10 o'clock at the
First Baptist
Church.
Mindful that an omnipotent Provi
dence has shown mercy without
bounds, and dealt generously with
His people in the material blessings
of their brief sojourn on this little
atom of the limitless universe, a
spirit of thanksgiving will prevail
throughout Anderson today.
Thc occasion will take on the as
pect of a holiday with many and
th-?re will be a tendency toward
spending the day in revelry, but the
grateful will repair to the house of
the Lord and utter their thanks for
the goodness that has been showered
upon them and thc richness and the
fullness of the life they have been
permitted to enjoy.
Business activities of practically
every nature will be suspended for'
the dav. Retail and_ wholesale estab
lishments, with th?* exception of the
drug stores, wh'-h will observe Sun
day hours, will oe closed for the en
tire day. All public Institutions such
as the court house, the City courts,
the magisterial courts, the schools' and
colleges will be closed for the day.
The postoffico will observe special
hours. The carriers will make their
morning rounds* only, while the gen
eral delivery window'at the postofnee
will be opened, this tr. be between
malls. In fact, practically every es
tablishment or institution of any kind
that closes for the Sabbath will be
closed for today.
The congregations of the Baptist,
Methodist and Presbyterian churches
of the city will meet for a Joint ser
vice at the First Baptist church at 10
o'clock. The Rev. J. M. Garrison,
pastor of the A. F.t P. church, will,
preach the sermon. Mr. Garrison
will talk on the general ' subject of
"Thanksgiving." Services will be
li eld at Grace Episcopal church and
in offering for thb benefit of the
shnhdi orphanage. 1 So far as could
be learned "yesterday, ' these are the
inly religious services which will be
held In the' etty today. "
- '?s usual; there will be many who
will spend th?'day in the field with
Hog and gun:' Ever a popular Thanks
Riving' pastime, hunting will claim
many toddy. Quite ? .perfluous is the
remark that in practically every hdme
the: proverbial Thanksgiving dinner,
eonslstlnfc' of roast turkey as a ncc
leus, will bc served: ' in many homes
parties for 'did' and young will be
riven and the night will ring with
shouts of merriment. '

Mr. Editor:-.
I notice that the city tathara are
thinking about having a Steam En

$10.000.00.
, As a tax payer I write to protect
against any such extravagance in tho
management of the affaira of our city.
The outfit we now have ls sufficient
for all needs, as the majority of'the
douses are one story, and the .water,
pressure ls all that IB'. necessary. - I
tm satisfied if the Insurance companies

ind that the public welfare would
*e looked after by the people' srepre

tot through friendship only.
Mr. Editor, I hope you ?Till continue
