Receiving advices yesterday from
authorities at Savannah that they had
arrested Fred Simmons, a young white
man wanted liere on charges of com
plicity in the burning of u building at
Pelzer a yeaf ago. Sheriff Ashley left
yesterday afternoon for the Savannah
city to bring the defendant hack to
Anderson, lt was not anticipated that
Simmons would offer any resisV-uce
to returning to South Carolina with
out requisition papers, and it ls ex
pected that the sheriff will get hack
today or tomorrow willi his prisoner.

Simmons, who was arrested In Green
ville last Saturday cn charges of hav
ing assisted In the burning of the
building. J. F. Simmons was brought
to Anderson Sunday n.ul placed in
the county Jail. Yesterday he was j
carried before Magistrate Bonner, at
Pelzer, who admitted him to bail in
the sum of $300.
A vouug white man by the name of
Oscar Sergeant, who is charged, wltn
having fired the building, was arrest
ed here Saturday and still occupies a

"Ye olde time Addier?" will gather
in force at Townville high school
Thanksgiving night for such a contest !
In melody as has rarely If ever been j
equalled in these parts. It will be
a Joint affair of fiddlers of Oconee and
Anderson Counties and the object of
thc function will be to raise funds
for the Townville higii school. The
entertainment ls sure to attract peo
ple for miles around that well known 1
settlement and it is probable that the
school will realize a handsome sum

Some -tu invitations to well known
"artists" of Oognee and Anderson
Counties have been issued by the
principal of (he school. Mr. C. H.
Witt, and already he has received re
sponses enough to assure the success
of the venture. Fiddlers in either
county who may not have received an
invitation to partic?palo in the contest
are invited to come along and bring
their Instruments, as the match ls
open to anyone in either of the coun
ties. . , .
An attractive prize list has been ar
ranged. Competent judges will be on
hand to award the honors of the occa
sion. No entrance fee will be charg
ed. The contest will begin about 7
o'clock and will continue until well
into the night.
The contest will not be limited to
performers on the fiddle, but those
gifted In twanging thc banjo will be
welcomed and anyone possessing such
an Instrument is requested to bring
the same along and. add to the melo
dy of the occasion.
