fore they can hope to receive tho
money which the State promises for
theso conditions, ls evidenced by a
letter recently rocelved by Superin
tendent Pelton from State Superin
tendent Swearengen. The letter fol
lows:

School Law 1912. Please forward all
these applications from your county
without delay.
A supply of bianka has already been
sent each county superintendent If
additional copies are needed, please
make. requisition for them at once.
Rural graded 'school applications
should be filed aa soon as the require
ments of the rural graded school act
have been met. The enrollment for
1913-14 will he accepted in all cases
where the county superintendent feels
confident of 60 pupils in a two
teacher achool and 76 pupils In a
throe-teacher school. The average at
tendance of 00 pupils In a two-teacher
school must be fully secured for the
session 1914-16 before State aid can
be legally granted. Please take spe
cial care tn observing thia feature of
thc law.
Rural graded school blanks have
already been sent to each county. If
additional coplee are needed, they will

Forty-five delegates are in Colum

Christ in South Carolina at the 35th
annual State convention. The meet
ing is with thc Christian church of

day. State Senator J. C. Richardson,

Thursday's sessions were devoted
largely to discussions relative to aux
iliary organizations of the church. In
both the morning and afternoon ses

J. T. Hlack. W. H. Brunson, M. W.
Maven and Mrs. C. E. Davis.
Thursday night able addresses
were heard from Uraut K. Lewis, Cin

villa office and Mr. Murrin of the Co
lumbia office will therefore make
their headquarters In Charlotte, the
change becoming effective Saturday

by J. B. Felton, county superintend
ent of education, the State board of
education wants to get some convinc
ing facts and flgu?*?w to present in
connection with the fight which will
surely bo made at the coming term
of the South Carolina general assem
bly for compulsory education. The
letter Just received herc requests that
tho county board begin at once on se
curing figures to show what percent
age of the voters1 in Anderson county
can write their names. This will be
a comparatively simple matter since
the club rolls for the primary elec
tion will show who was able to sign
his name and who had to make his
mark.

Placed Ia Jail.
Constables from Townville arrived
in Anderson yesterday morning with
Walter Foster, a negro, and turned
him over to Sheriff Ashley. The ne
gro was placed In jail to serve a sen
tence of 30 days. Foster was convict
ed of petit larceny when given trial
before Magistrate Fant. It ls under
stood that he stole a pair of trousers.
