The first shipment of the new fur niture for use in the Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph building ..ame in yesterday and ls now proper ly installed in the handsome home of the company. It will probably bc about November 5 before the new building is occupied by the exchange, although the business offices are now ready for occupancy. # -o Anderson Men In Greenville. Col. D. A. Taylor ead J. D. McElroy, both of Sar''y Springs section left yesterday afternoon for Greenville where they will serve on the Jury while the Federal court is in session. These two are Anderson county's only representatives at this session of the United States court. While the docket Por this term is very lengthy, it is un derstood that a majority of the cases to be tried consist merely of charges ol' making and selling liquor. Conductor ls Having Trouble? Friends of C. 8. Moorehead, conduc tor on the Piedmont & Northern lines between Anderson and Spartanburg, will regret to learn that he has been suffering for the last few days with some trouble in his right eye and has had to ask for leave of absence from his run. Mr. Moorehead believes that something blew into bis eye although those; who have lent medical assist ance could not locate the object The condition of the eye was slightly im proved yesterday and it is possible that this popular trahi man may soon be sble to resume his duties. Mr. Moorehead has many friends uU atong the line. Anderson Man Is The President. For the last few days Dr. M. R. Campbell of this city bas been bard it work on the program for the meet ing of the State Optical Association, which will convene in Columbia next ! Monday and romain in session through | ruomtay. Dr. Campbell said yesterday I that the program was complete and tie considers that lt is the best he has aver been able to arrange since he ha; teen president of the association. The meeting to be held in Columbia' will ake place in the Imperial hotel and prominent opticians from all parts of | the State will be in attendance. Dr. Campbell says that,he feels very for tunate in having secured such splen iid numbers for this program and he aspects that the attendance from all parts of the State will be Urge. -o Vegro Sure Did . . V. Eston, J. Mack Beck, Ur. W. S. Pearce and F. 8. Carter. Magistrate Had Cases Postponed. The docket in Magitrate Broad well's office showed yesterday morn ing the names of a number of defend ants, charged with various offenses but the ilrst called proved to be so lengthy and required such a long time for completion that the Magistrate de termined to postpone the other four cases until today. John Arnold was ar raigned on a charge of assault and battery, and stood trial and so well did his counsel present the case that Magistrate Broadwcll acquitted the de fendant. County Settlement Takes Place Today. The annual county settlen-.ent h? Lweeu the county auditor and thc coun ty treasurer for Anderson county will be held today when Col. D. H. Wise from tile office of the Comptroller Gen eral arrives in town. Tuts is a very in teresting transaction and always tak ?8 place once each year. The county of ficials say that their affairs are all in readiness for the settlement and that it should require only a short time. Former Residents Are Visiting Here. Among the former residents ot An derson now visiting hero are Mr. and Mis. Haylus Clark, formerly of this vity but now of Washington and At lanta. Mr. Clark is chief railroad mail clerk between Washington and Atlan ta and enjoys the confidence of the postal officials. Mrs. Cla.k is a sister of R. R. King of tho Chiquoia hotel. Both Mr. and MTB. Clark enjoy a wide acquaintance in Anderson and they are being very warmly welcomed around town. KING OF HEIDELBERG PROVES GOOD SHOW! One of the best of the small tabloids that have been presented at the Pal motto treatre ls "The King of Heldel berg," which opened at that theatre yesterday for a six days' run. The shrow features Harry Rodgers and Fred Godding, comedians, and these two are really clever. Their comedy Is' the kind that secures plenty of laughs, while ut the same time it never verges on the undesirable. Charles Sol orando, singing "While the Angelus is Ringing" received several enchores. The girls aie pretty nnd well dressed, and can both sing and dance. The show, which is the tabloid production of a popular show under another name, ls one of the best of the smaller shows presented recently, and drew good crowds, both afternoon and night yes terday.
