Program for the annual conven
tion of the Association of Southern
Agricultural Workers, to be held at
Clemson College, October 21 to 23,
was received in Anderson yesterday.

In On Foot
People out riding at a late hour last
night reported that all the roads be
tween Anderson and Abbeville were
congested with traffic and that hun
dreds of negroes are on the way to
Anderson on foot. Some of them are
coming from places 15 and 20 miles
distant and they will forget all about
the tiresome walk when they see tho
"Hons and elephants."

Arrived Early.
The ?advance gu ?rd of Ringling
Brothers circus arrived in Anderson
yesterday afternoon at 1.40 o'clock in
the shape of three .'dagoes" and four
monkeys. Each of the three carried
the familiar grind organ and the child
ren of Anderson were almost as well
pleased over the first arrivals as they
will be with the circus today.

New Drug Store
Doing Business.
Lewis Drug Company ls the firm
name of Anderson's newest business
venture. This store ls located in one
of the, new building just completed
on South Main Btreet and is one of
?the nicest of Anderson's many drug
stores. Dr. Lewis says that yester
day's busbies was all that he had
expected and that ho was well pleas
ed. He plans to complete his store
by arranging some especially hand
some show windows within the next
few days.

way of a "Benedict" supper took place
last night at the Chiquola hotel when
a number of young men around town
gave a banquet in honor of Harry
Geisberg, who is to desert the crew on
October 14, when he will be married.
i It ls said that some of the thirsty
camels with Ringling Brothers' cir
cus, going by the hotel to the show
grounds In the wee small hours of
the morang, turned green with envy
when they saw the festivities going
on. While the latter statement has
not yet been confirmed every member
of the party says that there was never
a more enjoyable occasion.

Had False Alarm.
A stiii alarm was aswered by the

[City Hall Has
Been Repainted.
Visitors to the city hall yesterday
hardly recognized the place since the
many Improvements .of the last few
days. Painters have been at work on
the interior of the building and all
the wood work bas been repainted
and the walls have been done over.
Some changes have also been made In
the court rooms and the entire place
ls greatly improved.

C. Hardy against J. D. ( rout, which
was the second case for trial at the
present term, and which was tried
at the June term as well as the Feb
ruary tenn, had been settled.
Inasmuch as very considerable In
terest has been taken by the public
in this case, and considerable public-1
Ity given to thc charges made here

on which this settlement was made
will doubtless prove Interesting to
many people.
The parties to the cause. Miss Har
dy and Mr. Trout, united in conveying
the tract of land in quotion to the
Hank of Anderson as t nut ce to car-1

preamble to said deed, is as folows:
"WHEREAS, I, Laura C. Hardy, of]
the town of Starr, In the County and
State aforesaid, did hen orore, to-wit, |
on the 13th day of August, 1913, enter
into a written agreement with J. D.
Crout of the City of Anderson, who
is my nephew by marriage, for the
sale to h<m of my tract of land con
taining f>.i'.r hundred and wenyty-stx
(426) acres, more or less, situate lu

and State aforesaid, on the terms and
for the considerations therein set out,
which agreement is recorded in the
Clerk*3 office in said County in Deed
Book LLLL, page 134: and
"WHEREAS, thereafter I declined
to carry out said agreement when
tender was made to mc by the said
J. D. Crout, as provided in said agree
ment, and thereafter brought a pro
ceeding in the Court of Common Pleas
in said county, for the purpose of hav
ing said written agreement* set aside
and declared null and void on the al
legations that the said J. D. Crout had
taken advantage of the confidence |
which I had in him and by . other
means had fraudulently and by undue
influence prevailed upon me to sign
said paper, greatly against my wish
and Inclination; and,
WHEREAS, I now desire, voluntar
ily and freely, rc publicity retract
every charge made In the com
plaint in sala cause or In any other
manner that reflects directly or Indi
rectly upon the honor ,-?r integrity of]
the said J. D. Crout.
"Now, therefore, I, Laura ,C. Hardy, j
do hereby most solemnly and sin
cerely retract each and every of said
charges, and I do hereby fully ex
onerate the said J. D. Crout there
from, and from any intention or at
tempt to mislead, deceive or defraud
me or in any other manner to impose
upon me in relation to the execution
of the snlri agreement, and I make
this retraction freely and voluntarily.
"Having thus v.oluu'arilv and frpe-1
ly retracted and withdrawn the charg
es made by me against the Bald J. D.
Crout, and having exonerated him
therefrom, and having agreed with
him on an adjustment of the contro
versy between us, on the conditions
herein stated, etc.
Thc conditions referred to are that
the Trustee shall raise the sum of
Thirty-Five Hundred Dollars ($3500), |
either by a mortgage on the premis
es in question or hy a sale of a por
tion thereof, and out of this fund pay I
lo Miss Hardy, or to her attorneys, the j
sum of Ono Thousand Dollars ($1,000),
out of which shall be paid a)l costs
of the litigation,- including Forty Dc-1
lars ($10) to Mr. Crout as re-lmburae- )
ment fox a copy of the evidence, and
that the remaining Twenty-Five Hun- ?
