Tonight will be a big night for the
poor people of the ctly. The Sal
vation post in Anderson announced
tsveral weeks ago that plane were*
und*-r way for having a night of en
tertainment for the poor people abd
tonight was chosen. Ensign Belcher
says that the people of the? city have
responded very liberally to his call
for funds, with which to arrange to
night's prizes, refreshments, etc., and
that the occasion s'aould be a success,.
A program consisting of recitations,
music, etc., will aho be rendered to
night, beginning at 8 o'clock. Tbe
entertainment will take? placo In the
Army .hall.

few hours in Anderson yesterday, en
route to Clemson college to attend the
"Home Coming Week" festivities.

A Revival at
Neal's Creek
Revival services are in progress at
Neals Creok church this week and lt
ls said that great interest ls being
manifested. Pastor Hiottr ls being
ably assisted by Rev. J. H. Anderson
of Central and Prof. K, M. Holding,
also ot Pickens county. who has
charge ot the music. It la seid that
interest in the services ts growing,
and thal the prospects for a sweeping
revival are bright.

On An Excursion.
The Southern railway will today
operate its annual excursion from An
derson to Tallulah Falls. A very low
round trip rate has been granted and
lt was said yesterday at Ute office of
the Blue Ridge railway that a large
number of tickets bad been sold. The
excursion train will leave Andersen
this morning at 7:20, arriving at the

E. C. McCants, superintendent of

yesterday that lie wilt begin the en
rollment of pupils for the graded
schools of the city on September 1.
The schools of Anderson will all open
on the morning of September 14 and
between the tlrst and the fourteenth
Mr. McCants will be in his .office ev
ery day to take the names of pupils
and he says that he expects a very
large enrollment for this year and in
dications now are that the city will
have more pupils in the schools for
the coming year than ever before.

Anderson people saii yesterday that
they could notice an improvement in
local business conditions since the el
ection is over with and from this time
on business will steadily pick un.
This will .be due to two reasons, the
first being that un election always
has a tendency to demoralize the pub
lic for a few .weeks before lt takes
place and the other reason is that
the Fall season is now coming on.

small station at College Place on the

the institution says that he expects

Mrs Irving Brownlee baa been tok
en to the Anderson county hospital,
and it is understood* that she ia quite
ill thore. When Mrs. Brownlee was
seised with the attack Mr! Brownlee
was in the mountains of North. Caroli
na. He was summoned by telegraph
land arrived in the city yesterday and
I several of Mrs.* Brown lee's relatives
?have arrived to be at her bedside.
The people of Anderson all hope tbat
her condition may soon show some
?improvement.

and then went by steamer to Charles

vacation.
