Tremendous Vote
Is Now Expected.
Visitors coming to Anderson from
other'towns and counties''Iii the Stato
evince a lively Interest In the enroll
ment of voters in this county. A
majority of the visitors state that ev
ery, section of the State will show a
alight Increase in enrollment and that
in some counties the Increaao Is de
cidedly large. In this county lt has
been expected that the vote would fall
off a:hundred, instead'of which its in
creased about that number and it now
seems that the same condition, exists
In almost all the counties- of-South
Carolina.

HEALTH OFFICER
CHOSEN TUESDAY
Dr. John Major Will Succeed Dr.
J. C. Mitchell aa Meat and Milk
Inspector Here
An important meeting of the boara
of health of Anderson took place yes
terday, at which time thc board drew
up resolution^ which recommend to
tho Anderson city council the election
of Dr. John Major as city meat and
milk inspector to succeed Dr. J. C.
i Mitchell. Dr. Mitchell's term of or
, (leo will expire on October 1st and it
I ls geuernlly presumed that council
will accept thc board's recommenda
tion and will elect Dr. Major to this
position.
"Rip" Major, os ho ls known by ali
his friends, is a son of Mr. and Mrs.
S. C. Major. After being graduated

TREAT STREETS
Rumored That City Is Now Pre
paring to Treat Principal Tho
roughfares of City
It is understood that tho new city
council of Anderson is now'planning
to have th? princ'oul bualnesn thor
ough f area of the city treated with, tar
vin, thus abating or tfossloly doing
away with the dust nuisance.
It la said that the people who do
this work have submitted a proposi
tion ta tbe city of Anderson,, fri wklch
they agree to prepare the streets ot
tho . city and administer the tarvla
coating for a consideration of $3,100.
When the' tar via is in place they will
guarantee it for a space of 12* mo nt IIB
and then at the end of that time they
will return to Anderson and put on a
second coat for one half that Bum,
They will guarantee the second coat
for a space ot 12 months and this will
be repeated each year. Tho reduction
over the first cost IB due to tho fact
that much more work la required .tu
get the streets in readiness, and to get
the flrfat coat on than will be necessary
after that.
-rOf. course tho new members of
council have not yet bad an opportun
ity to consider this matter but it IB
sato to say that tho public Will appre
ciate such nu action equally, n? much
ao' thoy could anything that council
might do.
The vote on this question will be
awaited with inteient. ?
