ANDERSON
A CLOS?
SPARTANBURG WON BY A
?SCORE OF 6 TO 5
GOOD EXHIBITION
LocalseRallied in Ninth and Made
Game Fish! but Could Not
'Register Winning Run
For a matter or ten or fifteen min
utes yesterday everybody at the ball
park was gloriously crazy-it seemed
that Artderson was about? to. come
from behind iii the last frame and cop
the contest when Watson struck out
it war*; nil over. Spartanburg won by
a score) of G to 6.
Better games of bail havfc l|been
played than Was this one but there
have been but few more interesting.
McAllister who pitched the first eight
innings-; for' Anderson, was in poor
form and was hit hard. Mobley caught
a veryupoor game and this went a long
.way toward helping tho vis tors to win
and Umpire Pitcher could not see his
way clear giving Anderson any of the
big-ends when lt came to decisions.
- Th$q game was rep]etc with inter
esting] plays. Robinson, played in
deep ?enter, ran in and made one of
tho pratt lest catches ever Bean at
Buena Vista park, making a double
piny, marmon played a Jam-up game
on fitBt baso while the hitting of
Childers, wns a feature.
Guthrie pitched a good game" of
ball but better has been seen here.
Childers garnered a three base bit,
Wrennngot a home run and in the
ninthl tho lac ola tapped up for three
uafctlos;
Whm the ninth inning began, Spar
enburg had the locals G to 1, but in I
this inning, Robley walked. Childers ?
hit r.af3, Ripley hit -for two bags. Mar
tin dropped a long fly in ?enter field
-"?nd Harmon nit safe, giving*the locals
finir 'mina. With only one needed to
tie tiBiscore Watson came to bat and
st ruck out. and the game was over.
ThW box score gives a fairly-good |

Sovcral changes are needed on the
Anderson team and Manager McColl
says they will be made. .
Fine chance today to get the big end
of thc scries. Never did believe that
i'anella could pitch anyway.
Guthrie ls a good pitcher but frank- j
ly, ho isn't as bad as the other teams i
think.
The very idea of Wrenn knocking
a homo run. That boy is "some" ball
player and no mistake.
Red Childers was there with his bit
ting yesterday, just like he ususally
is.
Even if we didn't win We scared
them to death and .that's some conso
laton.
"Chick" Watson will probably pitch
again today and it wouldn't surprise
UB to see the big fellow mop up with
tho Sparkleberryites.
Just to show that even the good
ones make miBtakeB sometimes, Mar
tin let one get away from him yester
day. \
Harmon played. the best fielding
game to be seen yesterday and he
managed to ease in a hU.
The only trouble witb. McCo?J in
yesterday's game was that h?? had a
little too much on that wing of his.
About 4 to 0 would be a satisfactory
score today. What?
Greenville comes Monday, Tuesday
and Wednesday, to lose two out of
three just as Spartanburg is abont to
do,.
There should be a big attendance
for tho Saturday afternoon game. The
affair will start at 4: SO o'clock.
%
Ask anybody if that'wasn't a good
game yesterday.
Time to make some sort of arrange
ment about getting back- in the run
ning again.
o - o
Some new men will join the Ander
son, team Monday and while it must
bc admitted that Anderson has a good
bunch of ball players, there are one
or two weak spots to be filled.
"Pct" Hobin Bon might take a notion
this afternoon to hurl.a few himself.
In which event Spartanburg will
gracefully lay down and die.
Tho -/2s<tor8 had best make good of
tho t'mo they spend on top pt the per
centage column because they can't
stay there very long. > #
Tho exhibiton starts at 4:30 and it 1B
