New York Cotton
New York. July ll.-Apprehensions
of-conflnued dry weather and higher
temperatures in the southwest over
Sunday were considered chiefly re
sponsible for the advance In today's
cotton market, wiiile buying may also
have been encouraged to some ex
tent by rat'ur totter reports from the
domestic uoods trade.
Prices sold some 29 t o"0 points
above the low level of the week on
new crop positions and the market
clo: od steady at a net gain of 4 to ll
points for the day.
The opening waa steady at an ad
vance of 2 to 4 points in response to
higher cables. Private weather ad
vices indicated a few additional show
ers in Texas and the market eased off
to about yesterday's closing figures
right after the call under realizing.
The ofllcial map, however, showed no
sign of any general ruin in thc south
west and the western belt forecast for
generally fair wc^.t'ior was quickly
followed by an increasing demand
and advancing prices. New Orleans
and other southern points appeared
to bo buying new crop deliveries hero
while there was continued covering
by local shorts and a moderate de
mand from free trade sources. Offer
ings appeared to- bc limited to the re
alizing of recent buyers for a rally
and th market closed within a point or
two of the best.
Cotton futures closed steady.
