M) Bales of Waste
And Waste House Burned
Tlve waste house and forty bales of
waste, which It contained was burned
late .Sunday night, the loss amounting
to net ween $100 and $500. The house
which belonged to the Anderson cotton
mill was situated JuBt outside of tbe
mill >ard at the head of B and C
streets t ear the siding of the G. S. Hi
A . which runs to the power house
from i be main line on Tribblc street.
The company carried no insurance on
tlie building as that would necessitate
the installing of a sprinkler system
in the building, costing inoro than
the loss of the contents would amount
to. Tito waste which is generally sat
urated with oil and greases is very
cumbustuble and it is supposed that
is uhat caused the fire. The pressure
on the mill hose wus exceptionally
good.
Hoail Scrape
Boing Klee Work
The city road scrape is doing sonic
nice work on the streets. The scrape,
which is drawn by a large' traction
engine, is doing wonders to the streets
not only in filling the gulleys, that
make traveling so bad, but in making
them clean and in removing the rocka
that prove such a nuisance to the au
tomobilists of the town.
The scrape is a great Improvement
over the old way of having the work
done by negro labor. It requires on*
ly three men to handle tho machine,
and they are capable of doing twice as
much work as a gang of workmen;
without the cost of an overseer to sec
I that the work is done completely sat
isfactory.

young business man of Hartwell, Ga .
who was in the city Monday, stated
that the people of bii section are very
much in earnest about getting the la
terurban to build into their town. They
are willing to put up the rights of
way. terminal facilities and guaran
tee of business. Mr. Richardson says
that the Hartwell people will never
be satisfied until they get the Inter
urban for they realise that it is a
great help to this section of South
Carolina. Thev also realise that the
Piedmont and Northern was fleeced
in some localities by land owners and
that future building movements must
be conducted more cautiously than in
the past. But when the call comes,
the people of Hartwell will bo on the
