Application whs made yesterday to
('. S .AlP'n of the Piedmont and Nor

that this can be arranged and that

A* Anderson Lady
Anderson boasts or a number of lite
rary people, a number of whom have
made t names for themselves, but the
latest addition to the large number
is Mrs. C. S. Sullivan, the. cnmpoBer of
a song hit appearing on the markets
of Anderson yosterday. The song is
entitled. "Down in the Palmetto State."
and it has a lilting refrain that is well
nigh irresistable. Every man,' woman
and child reading the lines last night
was straightway humming it and Mrs.
Sullivan was being complimented from
all sides. '~'>th the song and the word''
were composed by this gifted Ander
son woman and Anderson people are
proud of her.

The tango teacher rroni Atlanta.Miss

her homo after spending ten days in
Anderson teaching the would-be tan

During her stay In Anderson, Miss
Johnston made quite an impression
upon all the people with whom she
came in contact and she delighted the
many pupils thronging the hotel to
learn tho tango. That she certainly
kno >vs how the dance goes herself,
cannot be denied and she succeeded
in showing a good many of the learn
ers just how it should be done.

Last Lyceum
Well Attended.
A large audience witnessed the last
lyceum number given at Anderson col

Lyct jystera last night.
Mr. Cratae, besides keeping the au

front the audience.
The clay moulding surpassed the
expectations of many *h?t *vers set
familiar with Mr. Calne's work. The
busts represented the thr^? men. Lee,
Lincoln and Uncle Sam, known to ev

The season has been one ot marked

Cleaning Up Premies* Now Will]
Do Much to Help When Sum

ir t'.:ere is anything in the old adage
"a stitch in time saves nine" those
Anderson people who had even a
speaking acquaintance with Solomon
will shortly begin to clean up their
premises preparatory to the coming of
summer. Bv removing some of the
winter's accumulation of rubbiBh and
getting the premises cleaned up now,
there won't have to be so much rub
I bish and getting tho premises cleaned
j up now, there won't have to be eg
much swatting of the fly this suin
mor and on, the other hand, if the
premises ?" nul cleaned up, all the
swatting that the family combined can
do will not accomplish much. - If tho
breeding place of the fly is not re
moved the killing of a few hundreds
will not make aay appreciable differ
ence. To accomplish anything with
the fly bis bre^dins place mC3t bo de
stroyed. Thousands of eggs hatch
out faster than an/ living man can
kill flies. . /
In the hopes that it may do comb
good here the following "Fly Oatch
[ ism" as prepared by the Indlana
[State Board of Health, is reproduced:
1. Where Is tho fy born?
In meure and filth.
2. Where does the fly live?
In evto!-y kind, of filth.
8?' Is anything' too filthy for the fly
to eat?
.. No
4. (a) Where does he go when he

nure pile and the Spittoon?
Into the kitchen and dining room
(b) What doeB he do tuere?
He walks on the bread, fruit and
vegetables. 'He wipes his feet on the
butter and bathes in the milk.
5. Does the fly visit the patient sick
with typhoid fever, consumption au1

He does?and he may call on you

6. Is the fly dangerous?
He is man's worst pest and is ico;e

7. What diseases does the fly cary?
He carrier typhoid fever, consump

I On his wings and. hairy fct. What is
his correct name? Typhoid fly.
8. Did he ever kill anyone?
He killed more American soldiers in
I the Spanish-American war than did
I the bullets of the Spaniards.
9. Where are the greatest iiu-.-i.er of
cases of typhoid fever, consumption

Where there are. most files.
10. Where are the most files?
Where there is the most filth.

on your premises removed and burned

with rules and slows files to breed o:.,
his premises to visit you, screed yovA
doors and windows and-keep them oTK.
Anderson is no dirtier than any eth
er city la this section of the country
but at that the statement does not
stand fo*- much. There Is not enough
care, used in keeping the .premises
in and around the city cleaned up and
the statemont that at least half of
the sickness of the c?mmuuity is due
to this carelessness can aot be de
