County Treasurer'Receives Order

Attorney (.'encrai Orders That Treas
urer .Hot.ee Regln Receiving An
derson Road Tax.
A matter causing untold trouble I
in -Anderson county lu regard to the
road tax has just been sttled and as
a result. C. W. McGee, county treas
urer, was yesterday tn a much ninre
amiable frame of miud than he has
been for some time.
The trouble grew out of the fact
that two years ago the code? commis
sioners made a mistake and Ander
son's road tax appeared as being
Si no. However, the mistake was not
seen for almost a year and all road
taxes had been paid at the rate of
S 1.00 per year. When the matter was
called to Mr. McGee's attention he
took lt up with the officials in Colum
bia and it has lust now been adjusted.
For the past month almost every
man going into Mr. MiKJee's office
would insist on paying his road tax
and it has caueed the county treas
urer much trouble, having to explain
to almost every one of the taxpayers
why he could not take the money.
The time for taking the road tax
is supposed to exp'.re on Miirch 1
but the county commissioners have
determined to ex toed thl_ time until
May 1. Therefore the tax will be ac
cepted until that time. Mr. McGee
said yesterday that Anderson people
should not get this date- confused
with state and county taxes,' as tho
time for paying1 those expires" 'on

Mr. MoGee Eal_ that lt was a great
relief to him when he received the
leaer from Columbia yesterday and
that ho expected lt was a relief to the
people of the county as well.
