The Auderson ' Dally Intelligencer's
creat automobile contest was first an
nounced, but in that abort space of
time H bas been given the widest pub
licity and has attracted the attention
of hundreds of people throughout the
state. Since la?t Tuesday when the
first 'news of the big Ocer of $2.000
was given to the public, nominations
have been receifed in an ever increas
ing r?imbcr. But the number of nomi
nations to date is merely a beginning.
There are dosen s and dozens of towns
throughout the western portion or the
State yet to be beard from, and there
is net a. single county yet that is suf
ficiently well represented. For the
next ten days the contest will be strict
ly In the nomination stage. Aware
that only a small .percentage of tbe
nominations develop into active con
testants, the Anderson Daily lntelll
geucar invites and urres every alitrible
person of the territory to think well
of the opportunity. To the few who
combine energy and determination and
who have a little spare time, it em
phasises tbo opportunity of an early
start or entry, for spirited and en
ergetic persons are the ones who may

For Great Fair to Be Heid
In Anderson
Plaus are now being made for the!
first Anderson county field day and
the indications are that If the ar
rangements now being made do not
miscarry it will be one of the most
successful events of Its kind to takej
place in any cour-.y of the State.
J. B. Felton, superintendent of
education for Anderson county, has
issued the following open letter to
teachers, trustees and patrons of the
public schools:
"We are planning to have Field Day
In Anderson next spring. We can
do nothing without your help. The
success of the occasion depends co
you.
"These exercises are held for the
purpose of stimulating an Interest in
spelling, geography, arithmetic, In
athletics and in home economics, such
as sewing, bread making, the making
of tables, shelves, baskets, etc. Prof.

communication from Dr. J. C. Mitchell,
commissio?r of health la which that
official pointa but the fact that the
:'ty has entirely too many dilapidated
buildings. Ho says that quite a num
ber ot the buildings, some within the
heart of the city, have reached ; the
point where they are hardly less than
a disgrace and urges that some ac
tion be taken by the owners in vnri
ons quarters. Some of the buildings
according to the Health. Commissioner,
nhould be improved and remodeled,
while he takes the position that others
are not worth improving, and should
