allowed once, as the value of this Association
willdepend on its permanent

Each County Association shall determine
for itself the qualifications of its
members, and shall meet at last four

, than fifty cents per member for annual
dues
The Governor of the State shall be.ex
officio an honorary member of this Association.

committee of one for each County
celcted by its delegation immedately after
the organization is completied, to
whom all resolutions or business propositions
are to be referred without debate,
and this committee shall prepare business
and be empowered to make such re
y commendations as it shall see fit, to be
acted upon by the Association.
Art VIJJ. This constitution mar be

by vote of two thirds of the inenbers

Now, Sir, after these long years of ,
edious and irksome duties fraught with
tremendous usefulness, with shattered
nerves and broken health and old age
and a numerous and constantly increasing
and dependent family growing on
apace, I am reluctantly (oh! how reluctantly!)
compelled to tender my
resignation and doff my judical robes,
and I do so with feelings akin to those
stirring one parting forever from the
idol of his heart.
I suggest and nominate, with your

Illness of Ex-Goveruor l'erry.
' Much uneasiness was caused in Greenville
on the 8th inst. by the circulation
of rumors that ex-Gov. 13. F. Perry had
been suddenly and seriously attacked
by illness at Sans Souci, his residence,
three and a half miles out of town. Investigation
eliciied the welcome fact
that the stories in circulation were exaggerations
of the truth. On Sunday
the Governor had a slight attack of vertigo
which caused him to fall, bruising
himself slightly. l)r. T. T. Earlc was
sent for, and after an examination allayed
tho fears of the family, which
had been aroused by the sudden attack
and the succeeding period of entire or
partial insensibility. Representative W.
H. Perry and B. l'\ Perry, Jr.. sons of
the Governor, went down to the Stale
fair on yesterday morning, their father's
improved condition allowing them to

Late in the afternoon Governor Perry
suffered another attack, and l)r. Earle
was again sent for in haste, causing a
revival of the rumors. It is said the
Governor had suffered a new attack, but

Hon. Capers Will Sot Ho.
The Itev. Ellison Capers, the rector of
Christ Church, has written a letter to
the gentleman who communicated wit!)
him in behalf of the diocese of Easton.
Maryland, tendering him an election to
the bishopric, giving his final answer.
It is a declination. The decision has
been reached after full and proper consideration
of the case in all its aspects.
It is not generally known that the
present overture is not the first Gen.
Capers has received from the same dio
cese. Before the election of the Rev.
Kinloch Nelson, of Virginia, several
months ago, Gen. Capers was coinmunicatcd
with and earnestly urgad to 1
allow his name to go before the diocesan
convention, the solicitation being accompanied
with assurances of warm and influential
support. This was immediately
doclined, and the facts were known at
the time only to a few of Gen. Caper's
more intimate friends*.
The answer given to this last call will
be known with heartfelt pleasure hero
and in the State at large, where General
Capers is so unanimously loved as a
man and esteemed and valued as a clergyman
and a citizen.
