TB8CUIPTIOM $2 00 V ' ? 1 The Atlantic, Greenville nnd Western * Hallway Company. li JSditor Enterprise and Mountaineer : s As certain statements have been made ^ by officers of this Company as to its ^ financial condition, which statements n have been published in the newspapers and commented upon by the press g??ri-erally, 1 think it due to the members of tho Board of Directors and to the stockholders that the latter shall know nil the fac's upon which the Board of Directors acted, and the information and representations that influence their action. |At the recent meeting of tho stock- ( holders at Ninety-Six on the I7th ot 1 September, it was announced by the r treasurers and vicepresident, (who is * .also the chief ongineer,) that tho assets { of tho Company would not be sufficient 1 to complete the grading of the roau. I hat the deficiency will be more than $30,, J 000. This was a suprise to tho Hoard -of Directors and to the stockholders. On c tho 15th of July las (two months before 1 tho meeting alluded to) the following ^ Statements were furnished inc. One by Mr. V. M. Pope, Treasurer, of the assets of the Company ; and the other . by Mr. W. J. Kirk, Vice-President, ^ (who is also chief engineer.) These estimates were furnished at my request, f us reliable data, for mi to furnish to the f citizens of Augusta, where I was going to meet an engagement made with them 8 by the Vice-President to represent the . the claims of the road to ther consideration. Those statements wore thus used by r inc. They are now in my possession and a are in the hand writing of the officers ( named. The statement of theitreasurer * of?the township subscriptions is known to be correct, The individual subscriptions aro not doubted, therefore his j statement must be substantially correct. The estimates of the chief engineer of the cost of grading the line were relied 1 , K>f #K?- 1> ~--A m->A tl- "j' ??4?d npnn, ' them. ?The following are the state- , T^ents referred to: r J9T ATBMEMT OF V.
