Ev; \ ^":v. : Proceedings of the County Club. T!;e cluh was called to order at 11.30 by Hon. \V. C. Bonet, County Chairman. After the calling of the roll of clubs by the Secretary, M. I*. DeBruhl, ICsq., the chairman announced that there was a quorum present, but that four ciube had not answered. On motion of Mr. Parker, (he club proceeded to canvass th<; returns from the second primary election. On motion 'of Mr. Bonham. the following committee of tellers was appointed?Mr Bonham requesting that lie be hot appointed, to wit : .J. W. iVrrin, It. F. McCaslan, 1?. B. Gary, \V. O. Bradley, and B. l'\ Duckett. The secretary proceeded to call the roll of clubs, and a delegate from each club advanced as the club was called, and read the returns. The chairman asked what course woulu be taken in case of challenged votes. Mr. W. I'. Calhoun moved that each such case he decided as it came up. When Abbeville club Number 2f was reached, Mr. ,1. T. Parks said that it had come to his ears that colored voters had been allowed to vole in club number 2, who were not entitled under the constitution to vote at the primary election and moved that the vote of that club bo canvassed. Mr. Calhoun said that such votes * should be challenged as they were presented. Mr. Parker thought the proper way was to contest the vofe. Mr. W. 1*. Calhoun made the point of order that under the rules the votes should be challenged as they were presented. Mr. Parker made the point of order that Mr. Parks not being a member of the convention, could not make a motion. The point of order was sustained. The call of the roll proceeded, when Abbeville, Number 2, was culled again. Gen. Hemphill read the'returns. Mr. Itonluun said that lie had no interest in this matter, but in order that there i.,. >u.. MIVIUIU UC .Itt.UvllLU lu nil.- 1 proceedings, he moved that the poll list of Club Number 2, and of any other club in which it was raid those were al lowed to vo.e who were not entitled, should be read over Mr. W. P. Calhoun sain that the only way was to act upon erch vote as it oame up. Mr. O. T. Calhoun said if there were any challenged votes in Number 2, let them hi? named and discussed. Mr. 1'iirker moved that the club proceed with the canvass of the clubs, with j leave to any candidate to iile his protest against the return from any club, before the I'mal vote was announced. Mr. Gary wanted the (juestiod settled j then while the club was full, and not j when uiftuv had left. If there was any j irregularity in his club let it come up j men. Tint chairman held that Mr. Parker's' motion whs not in order. Mr Hemphill stated 111 :tt he had roail ! over the pull list of eluh number li, and that all thu names on it wore those of i Democrats of ?ood standing since 1870. j lie further slated that the vote of Slier- ; nrd Hodj;os was challenged. On motion of Mr. \V. 0. Bradley the I vote was cast out. The canvass proceeded until Phumlx ! Club was called. The Chairman said that this Club had sent up its n-lurns in an envelope and t^at no delegate was present. That the return thus sent was irregular. On motion it was decided to count the l>i :.. \\?i *i-.. . .n ... tmu iiwui l ikl'iiia. iivii inu rou was # called the tailors retired to count this result. After about half an hour they returned and made their report. (See tabulated statement.) The Chairman announced that the total vote cast was 245)2 Of these there had been cast for llenresentatives : ?V. ]>. Mars 1253 G. 11. Waddell 1194 ; for Auditor : A. \V. Jones 1242. J. T. The Chairman :;aid he was requested to announce that immediately aft<-r the adjournment of the Democratic Club, fill* l^iiriiior^' P.nnvnnHnn wnnl/1 nw.i.r it* the Court House. The Chairman further stated that the Seneca Congressional Convention had appointed a primary election for September 23. Mr. Parker moved that this Club meet on Friday 24th September to canvass the returns of said primary election. At the request of a delegate, Mr. Parker stated that the Seneca Convention with one or two exceptions left the said elec#"tibn to be governed by the will of the County club. That the Seneca Convention had decided that if there was no nomination on the first election a second primary should be held on tlie 2nd Thursday after the 23 September, and that the candidates having the highest number of votes be sent before said second primary. Mr. lienet said said as soon as he received the rules for the primary he would publish them in the county papers. On motion of Mr. J. X.
