W ; i Stock Show Notes. / Capt. Jas. Rogers. Jr., the enterprising reporter of th? Press and Banner, wm untiring in hjs attention to visitors. He is an genial a gentleman as he is a good reporter. The exhibit of marblework, by Messm. Leavoll and Gage, of GreenwootL was highly complimented. It showed consideroble public spirit and enterprise. ' Among the distinguished visitors from a distance, we noticed Hon. Geo. Johnstone. of Nowberrv. Cant. Jas. N. Lip seomb, of Columbia, Col. Thomas \V. Holloway, of Pomaria7 Capt. O. P. Mills, of Greenville, Messrs. E. C. and L. VV. Simkins, of Laurens, Capt. M. 13. Lipscomb, of Newberry, Col. J. L. M. Irby, of Laurens, and others. ' 'he oil paintings of Miss Bessie Watts, and the cravons of Miss Mary Rogers were much admired and showed considerable talent in this lino was pospossed by these fair ones. "We wore handsomely entertained while in Niaety-Six, by Col. and Mrs. James H. Rice. Capt. Jas. N. Kinir, the marsball of the day did his duty like a man. Ho was very proud of a silk badge which had been sent him for the ocoasion, by a fair ^ Virginian, who is now making her home in this County. The young folks had a delightful rlnnnp thn nii?ht ftftnr thfi Rtot;k Show. Capt. King had on exhibition a splendid variety of fruits, as also did Mr. O'Neal. A crazy quilt made by Miss Sallie Cade of Georgia elicited much favorable comment. "VaBmer," the correspondent of the Mebhrhoer at Ninety-Six, was as polite as possible. The Citizens' Meeting. On last Friday a meeting of the citi. zons of the town was called to take into conftidcraion the advisability of getting a town clock and a fire engine. After \ ^ discission the matter of the town clock was indefinitely postponed, and tho following commitee was appointed to get up information concerning the fire engine and report at a meeting to bo called some tiipe September: L. W. White, A. H. warillaw, T. r. uothran, T. C. Seal, Jones F. Miller. Very little enthusiasm was manifested in these matters, aud it is to bo regretted for a fire engine with cisterns of water on the square would afford great protection to the valuable property of the town. We are in hopes the committee will gain all the desired information and be able to make a favorable report. Our citizens should take an interest in these masters and show that all public spirit is'not dead in the old town. Gardeu Festival. We have been requested to state that the ladie.t of the Presbyterian church Wtjuld give a garden festival on Wt-dnesTay at Uapt Ij. vv. wnne's. inoso or us wno remember how enjoyable the last one was, will bo at lothe to miss it. .
