This is one of the institutions of the county that we ought to be proud of. There is no doubt that it will be very interesting. A meeting of the citizens of the town of Abbeville is called Thursday, August 12th at G p. in., in the Court House to tuke into consideration the advisability of purchasing a town clock. Don't forget the day and be sure to attend and i let us have a town clock. We need one, and we uued it badly. Ice Cream Festival. The ladies of the Presbyterian church will have an ice cream festival to-night in the yard of Capt. L. W. White. Be sure to attend and our word for it you will enjoy it. A negro youth a son of l)an'l Fortune, was drowned on Sunday in Long (Jane, at Morton's Mills, lie was bathing and getting out of his depth was carried under the bridge and drowned. Gen. Hemphill goes to Charleston this week to he present ut the banquet to be given by the graduates of the Citadel. He responds to the toast of the Press and we know he will do it well. Mr. LeUoy Wilson, father of Mr. M. Wilson, died on last Friday. Mr. Wilson was an old man and had lived a useful life, lie will long be remembered for his good deeds and kind acts in his immediate community. Mr. R. H. Ward law, Jr., delighted his many friends in Abbevilie by his appearance among them last week. There is no more genial, courteous, and lively gentleman in this whole country than llal Wardlaw, and no one has more friends than he. We hope he will be with us for some time. I cannot name all my goods in an ai>vertiscment, but request all who wish the enjoyment of a pleasant smoke to ask for "The liound Knob Cigars," only five cents each. The re-union of Company G, 19th Regiment, took place in the office of Hugh "Wilson, Esq., on last Saturday. Th?re were only six survivors present. In revising the roll it was found that* 47 members of the company were still living ; 13 were killed in battle ; ID died from disease ; 2 from wounds ; and ^30 nave (licit since the war. Augusta, July 21.?The cotton manufacturers of Augusta and vicinity organized on Wednesday a permanent issociation for mutual protection against strikers. It embraces the following mills: Augusta, Enterprise, Sibley, King, Shamrock, Globe and Riverside, jf Augusta' and the Granilevlle, Vau:lus^ and Langly, of South Carolina. It ivill proboly include at an early day all .he niillesin Georgia and South Carolina. >Ir. II. II. Hickman, of the Graniteville md Vaucluse mills, is president, and Vfr. C. G. Goodrich, of the Shamrock mills, is secretary of the association. The organization contemplates the aplointnient of an executive committee to ook into the difficulties of the mills with heir opetatives, and with power to call ipon all other mills 1*11 the association ,0 como to the assistance of that in ;roble. It is rumored that this action of :he mill authorities will probably have lie effect of ending the strike at the \ugusta factory.* It is said that many )f the operatives are dissatisfied on acjount of being compelled to quit work jecause of the action of the pick room lands.
