Watson, Esq., at Bradley writes us that on Sunday, 21st, a negro who gives his name as Isaac Ward law was taken up near the Edgefield line under suspicous circumstances, lie had in his posession a one horse wagon to which he was driving a small bay horse mule. On the wagon was a bale of cotton, which is bound with six ties and has the ends sewed up with twine. The negro said he got the cotton from Mr. -.las. Evans's mill, but upon inquiry it was found that Mr. Evans had never seen him and knew nothing about him. He is very obstinate and refuses to talk. We are requested to state that the property is at Bradley, in charge of :Squire Watson, and will be delivered to the owner upon his proving his prop yi ij' umi tug uusix Motion for lluil. On Saturday counsel for J. C. Ferguson inatlo application to .Judge Witherspoon for bail for their client. The motion watt based upon the testimony taken in the three trials already had, and 011 the further ground of failing health. Mr- "Gary and Mr. Bonet wore heard for the? motion and Solicitor Orr and Mr. llorrhum against il. His Honor refused the motion but without prejudice to the defendant's right to renew it because of failing health. We are not informed whether the motion will be renewed. Happy. Our friend 1!r. Tom Syfan the popular and accommodating conductor on the Abbeville road was married on the 17th to Miss Lily Gosr.ott of Easley. The happy vouug people came down on 'Thursday and that night were given a reception by the groom's parents, Mr. Jind Mrs. G. \V. Syfan. We heartily congratulate our friend upon his winning so beautiful a bride. j-iiio opens Happily lor them and we hope, no clouds will ever darken the horizon of their joint existence. v. A?? Newly a Fire. A bout twelve o'clock Sunday morning the chimney to Mr. Casmi's dining room caught tire, and caused an alarm in the neighborhood. The neighbors came promptly to the scene and the fire "was soon put out. The colored people wore particularly prompt and efficient in rendering aid. MESSAGES. Capt. J. E. Remnants and short lengths of all qualities of dross goods, will be closed out at and below the cost of manufacture. Bell & Galphin. There were no services in the Methodist church on Sundaj- night and most of that congregation worshipped with their I'resbeterian brethren. We are indebted to Capt. O.
