t)t Messenger. Entct?d at the poatoffice as 2od*cbus matter. TUESDAY, JANUARY 26, 188?. vftacBirTlox $2 09 An Asfltffiiment. On Wednesday, 21st instant, Messrs. Cunningham & Teuipleton dealers in general merchandise made an assignment to Walter L. Miller, Ksq., for the benefit of all their creditors. The firm has been known to be embarrassed for ttoine time, and this action on their part was not unlooked for. They have been dealing with Messrs. A. J. Salinas & Son, of Charleston, and to thein is due the largest debt. This debt however is not included or provided for in thedeed of i assignment, as a settlement thereof had previously been arranged between the parties. The liabilities are set down at &hnut?11()00 nnd the assets which consist of notes and account*, and the stock of merchandise, and some individual, real and personal property amount to ahout $ 14.000. Mr. Miller has given notice to the creditors, and called a meeting of them for the 4th of February. , " . Messrs. Cunningham & Templeton < have the sympathy of the public in their ( misfortune. They have acted perfectly fairly and honorably and have given up everything, including their individual properly to their creditors. We hope ' they may soon see the way to resuming ' business, and that success may attend their efforts. ? ( The Globe Hotel. < It is enough to say that Gen. J. W. Gray, who is well known to many of i our citizens, is at the head of this es- t tablishment, to convincc every one that ( they will receive a true Carolina welcome, when they stop with him. Polite. courteous and gentlemanly he makes e.very one and especially all from this section of the State feel perfectly at home. Be sure and stop with him when visiting Augusta. Cold. The second cold wave that was predicted by the weather bureau came to hand on Saturday. Sunday was a very x cold and gloomy day. During a good part of the day a fine rain or mist was fallling, which froze and made icicles on whatever it touched. The temperature was below freezing point Yesterday w*s no less disagreeable, though it had become somewhat warmer. Tonight, when we go to press it is warmer ?nd threatens rain. It. R. Electiiou.
