They hare began the new year in joy and happiness. May it continue to the end of both their lives. Capt. John McGrath of Anderson died last Monday from the efforts of a wound received in the war, and was buried in his confederate uniform. He was a good man and citizen. Messrs O'Donnel and Cunningham have temporarily closed their saloon pending a change in the business. Messrs. L. W. and A. W. Smith have returned from a pleasant visit to Atlanta. Taylor and Miss Kliza Aiken were married at the residence of Col. 1). Wyatt Aiken, the bride's father, and left at once on a trip to Florida. Mr. Taylor is a promising and influential member of the Bar at I'ickens and Miss Aiken is one of the noblest and most estcmablo ladies we ever knew. We arc sure that they inay reasonably anticipate a life of joy aud happiness. The ttev. S. A. Wabcr has arrived, and is domiciled at the Methodist parsonage. Mr. Weber is widely known as the editor for seven years of the Houlh eni UtiriHtian Advocate. Ho is an able inan and will doubtless discharge well his pastoral duties. We welcome him and liis family to Abbeville. The Kev. Lowrie Wilson, the now pastor of the Presbyterian Church has arrived, and assumed tho duties of his charge. He has made a fine impression and wo have no doubt will give sotisfac, tion to his people and be an acquisition to the whole community. He lost a log in tho war, and he is as valient in i the cause of Christ, as he was formerly i true in tne discharge or his duties ah a soldier. We have had the pleasure of meeting him and like him very much. Uood Irani. Messrs. M. P. DeBruhl and W. O. Brudltiy have formed a partnership for the prnctie of the law. And can he found at No. 2. O'Neill Range. Hoth of these are gentlemen of Hue abilities, of experience. And are sober, industrious and attentive. They will surely succeed and we commend them to the favorable notice of the public. Due West Dots. Christmas passed very gently in Due West. Our trade was very good during the holidays. Professor Cork visited Duo Wont ilnr. ing Christians. He is now the principal of the Winnsboro High School. Miss Carrie Bradley, of Troy bus spent a couple of weeks in Due West tnost pleasantly. We did not send down dots last week as we supposed there would be 110 issue of the Mksskn?eh. Mr. J. C. Kennedy and bride visited us hist week. M. John F. Calhoun has taken charge of the Phoenix Hotel. Mr. Calhoun is a most alfuble .<ml courteous gentleman, who will do all in his power to make his guests comfortable. We bespeak for him a liberal putronage. Mr. J. P. Bonner and family, sp-ut a portion of /Xmns with friends and kindred at Troy. Mr. Wesley Crawford has moved to the Todd place, two miles from town. Prof. Paul Crier, of Due West, ami Miss Kftie Pressley, only daughter of Rev. W. S. Pressley, of this place. Both of these ceremonies occurred Wednesday before Christmas, one in the morning and one in the evening. All those young people should do well for they have a bright promise. We hope they may.
