Moore, of Ninety-Six, was in town yesterday conferring with the County Commissioners relative to ordering the election of subscription to the Railrotd. The petition he presented contains a majority of all the voting freeholders of the town, and we entertain not the slightest doubt that the people of that live town will pull together in the matter. Ninety-Six is going to have the Eoad. One can see the fire and spirit in her. To-day D. Lucian Mnbrj\ Esq., and Miss Lila Wardlavr will be mnrriod, at the residence of Mr. Robert H. Wardlaw' who is the grandfather of the bride. Mr. Mabrv is one of the most promising young lawyers at this Bar; his bride is a daughter of one of the oldest families in the State. Due West Dots. Dr. Drennan brought a son to college last week. Miss Susie Calhoun has had a nice vchool offered her in Laurens county. Mr. R. H. Brice is well pleased with his school and surroundings in Alabama. Rev. H. C. Fennel paid us a visit lasl week. We were glad to see him. Mr. Robert Pratt, Jr., has a stalk ol cotton with 64 open bolls. He made over 1,500 pounds of seed cotton on ar acre of ground. Mr. J. A. Armstrong of Level Land is reported to have lost a thousand pounds of seed cotton by theft. It is the common remark that there it as handsome a set of young ladies at the Female College this year as was evei known to be there. We don't blame the young men for loving to look at them - Dr. J. W. Wideman has been down tc the old Wideman Homestead. He brought back with him a specimen ol gold rock. There was considerable excitement on the streets paring out the 'yellow gold.'' A nice specimen way obtained. Prof. J. W. Magill is expected to spend his Xmas holidays here. Mr. A. D. Kennedy has ordered * lot of fine hogs for our citizens. Mr. Storktofft of Hurst, Purnell & Co. has been spending some time with the merchants here. He is a most capital fellow and sells stacks of goods. Our genial friend and neighbor, Mr. John F. Calhoun will move 1st of JanHp uary to the residence now occupied by Mr. Henry Young, just outside of the corporate limits. It is a beautiful place and Mr. Calhoun will still have the advantages of town life and country life as well. Mr. Young moves into hit aweiiing in town. I know our friends will rejoice at the . splendid fortuno that has fallen to Mr Robbie.Hood eldest son of our distin|k guished townnian, Prof. Hood. Mr Hood received the appointment as mai agent on the Air Line from Charlotte t< Atlanta over 29 applicants. Salarj I |900. The lecture of Dr. Bovce on Individ uality came off last Wednesday eveninj and was an admirable production. Our farmers are busy sowine grain. Level Land was represented at the 1 State Fair by Mr. Henry Brooks. He says he is highly pleased with his . visit. It is reported that our friend Mr. i John Armstrong, had Rtolen from his barn one night last week, between two and three hundred pounds of seed , cotton. i Mr. K. M. Ashley boasts of a girl challenging hiin for a match game. Ask Robert what kind of a game he , means. i Dr. P. B. Carwile, formerly of this place, but now of Union County., made us a short visit not long since, and k speaks of being highly pleased with his , new home. The Doctor is looking well and we picture for him a bright future. Miss Nannie Harkness. an accomplished young lady of Anderson County, takes charge of a school near Capt. R. H. Armstrong's on *<53rd inst. Miss Harkness has been teaching some time and comes well recommended by the patrons of her former schooL We congratulate the people on securing the services of such an estimable lady. Mr. P. N. Bell has the finest fluid of oats between here and Abbeville. It would please usto see more of the farmers turning their attention to this important object, that of raising their own wheat and oats at home. Mr. Mell Clinkscales has sold out his propert}T and expects to move his family to Texas. We are sorry to see our people leaving for the West, when we feel confident that no other State in the [ Union offers better inducements to her citizens than the "Old Palmetto." Miss Ella McLaine, who is attending > the Female College at Due West expects to take charge of a school after Christmas. Our friend "R. S. G." of Duo West. 1 the correspondent of the Messenger, has created quite a sensation in Aiken, since 1 he wrote up his trip to that place. We have the pleasure of knowing "It. S. G." and cannot be persuaded that he would write an article to the injury of anyone I knowingly, as some of the people would have it. Although we voted against taxation for the It. R. and got defeated, still we are uot continually waging war with our ' neighbor, simply because we were defeated. f Wc don't hear of a certain young man called Judge crossing the river i often as formerly. What can it . be ? The bridge is not gone we hope. Owing: to the crowd of boys that t assemble at the Cross Roads every Sabbath evening, we suggest they organize f a Y. M. C.
