The Presbyterian parsonage is to have a mansard roof, and altogether promises to be a very n^at structure. The chujch was full and a good many bad to leave because they wore unable to secure seats. Mr. G. M. Jordan and familv, of Greenwood, have gone to Florida to spend the winter. Mr. .Jordan has one of the nicest vegetable farms in the Land of Flowers, and unnnlfu r?f i State in glowing terms. Col. S. W. Wallingford arrived in Abbeville from Indiana on yesterday. He will have his customary gool stock of * mules and some fine horses. Call on him if yon are in need of a good mule or horse. ?" The time for the payment of taxes without the 15 per cent, penalty expires dn the 30th of November. If you have not attended to this patriotic duty, you had better do so at once, as there will positively be no extension of the time. Bethel Presbytery, while in session last week, dismissed the Kev. Lowie "Wilson to the Presbytery of South Carolina. There is no doubt now about ; Mr. Wilson'B accepting the call of this place. He is expected here about the first of December. We ordered some goods one day last week from Mr. M. L. Kinard, of Columbia, and although it was Fair week, and doubtless Mr. Kinard was doing a rushing business, we received them the \next day. Norwood. Intelligence; reached here yesterday announcing the death of Mr. James A. Norwood. Mr. Norwood was prostrated about a week sinco with an attack of swamp fever. A telegram stating hi* dangerous condition was received by his family and the keenest interest was felt as to his condition, but they were cheered time and again with telegrams telling of his improvement and the fond hope was cherished that he had passed the crisis, that his strong constitution had withstood the attack of this insideous disease, and that ho would be restored to his usual robust health and return with his brother. Mr. J. fc>. Norwood, to his home. That home where his cheerful disposition and attractive manners made him a favorite and where h?? was so tenderly loved. One year ngo Mr. Norwood left here with the most buoyant spirits to accept a position offered him by his cousin Mr. vVarren Belcher to look after his large planting interests neijr Shreveport, Louisnna. He was charmed with the country and wrote the most encouraging letters as to his success. But such is the state of man. In the prime of manhood he is cut down and his soul required of him. Kind, gonial and affectionate, he had scores of friends in his native county, to all of whom the sad news of his death will cause inexpressible grief, and many will recount the generous impulses and noble traits of character which stamp e?i nun. it is nam to tmnK ot a man ol such en?rjt)r, so fine a physique and J such attractions confined in the narrow limits of the grave. The remains wtllvcach here to-day or to-morrow and be interred in the Episcopal Cemeterjr. Dae West Dots. Cotton blooms on the 10th of November is rather a novelty. Sweet potatoes are plentiful, and sold in town at 40c per bushel last week. Mr. Ilenry Brooks of Level Land attended the State Fair. Mr. Brooks is a pushing young farmer and a fine catch. Mr. J. T. Bryant, of Level Lnnd, and Miss Jennie McCallister, of Calhoun's Mills, were happily married last Wednesday evening by Rev. A. L. Patterson. This is a fine young man and most excellent young lady. Messrs Dunn & Nance of the Cross Roads make excellent meal. They are supplying some of our merchants with a it IIU (It IIV1V* Mr. Joo Nance is putting things in "tipple pie order," on the Clinkscalep place, preparatory to moving there first of December. We were glad to note the distinction given our friend and school-mate, Ilev. j S. L. Morris in the Synod at Chester. Mr. Morris made a fine speech. Mr. T. J. Iiowon, is one of the most thrifty farmers in Abbeville County. He will make over one hundred bales of cotton this year auri clear one thousand dollars. A wedding occurs in Due West on next Friday. This is the third one that has occurred at this residence in about eighteen months. In this case however, it will be a silver wedding. The 20th of November will be 25th anniversary of the marriage of Dr. and Mrs. E. 11. Edwards. Miss Jennie M. Grier and Miss Julia Kennedy, two of Due West's beauties are now in the hind of orange groves, bannnnns and pineapples. Dr. James Boyce was so unwell last Wednesday night that he was unable to deliver his annual lecture. The Doctor is suffering from a severe hoarseness. After conducting prayer and singing, Rev. W. L. Pressluy prevailed on him to defer his lecture until next week. Dr. Gus Thompson of Anderson County paid Due West a visit Saturday. Bowen, of Pickens, for the next President of the C.. C. G. & C. Railway. Ho endorses him in these words : "He is a steady, energetic, go-ahead mountain yeoman." We have not lost faith or hope in the success of this road yet The next meetins of the Directors may put an entirely different face on things. There never was a lovliei day it, dawned clear bright and balmy, not even a straw white cloud flecked the circling blue above, and it needed only a t?vittcr of birds and a floating sconi 01 Jessamine to make it a spring day and in keeping with this day wat the happy union, which took place al the residence of the bride's mother Rev.
