This estimable citizcn of Abbeville
County died at his residence on Saturday
lust after a long and painful illntfss.
Mr. llatney has long been identified
with many of the interests of Abbeville,
and his demise will be regretted by
many. He was at one time the superintendent
of the Lettle fiirm, and for
the flast four or five years has had
charge of the Poor House. lie discharged
all of his4trusts with fidelity
and with carnestitcss. His remains
were interred at Sharon on Sunday
last, in the presence of a number of his
friends and relatives.

Bass came up on Monday to -appear before
Judj;c Cothran on a motion to.dissolve
the injunction obtained by the
O't&G. Railroad against the A. &. K.
Railroad, restraining the latter from
completing and using the depot being
built in Greenwood. The motion v was
argued before Judge Cothran yesterday.
Major Ganahl and W. H. Parker Esq.
appeared for the A. & K. Road and W.
C. Benet for the C. &. G. Road. , The
Judge decided thatthe injunction should
be dissolved.
George Gibson, aned eisht. and Delia
' Jordan, aged nine years, were lodged
n jail on Saturday last charged with
the murder of the thirteen months old
child of George Jordan. The details of
this case show one of the most reinaYkable
instances of crime committed by
juveniles, that wo ever heard. "We
will publish the details next week.
We call attention to the announcement,
in this paper, of the Piedmont
Institute. It has a strong and successful
faculty, splendid buildings and is
situated in the healthiest part of the
State. Prof. McCaslan is well known
to our people, and it does not nocd that
we do more than tell them that be has
made Piedmont Institute a succors,

There wan quite an interesting law eaao
in town on last Wednesday. The nature
of the case eon Id bo better explained by,
calling ic a "dog oaso." The prc^esyijonalleged
that on a certain day, and at a certain
time, defendant's dog did make an
attempt to intlict serious wounds upon
the body ot the said prosecution. Quite
a ntmmar or witnesses were examined,
and all theevldence went to prove that
the dog was, (us the attorney for the. defendant
