BE IT RESOLVED, by the Town Council of the Town of Abbeville, now met and sitting in Council. That, in pursuance of the provisions of an Act of tho State of Sauth Carolina, entitled "An Act to Authorize Counties, Townships, Cities and Towns interested in the Construction of the Carolina, Cumberland Gap and Ctiicago Railway Company to Subscribe to the Capital Stock of Haid Company," approved December 22d, 1883, and upon tho written application of a majority of the owners of real estate of said town, duly received by this Council, asking that an election be held to ascertain whether or not said town Khali subscribe the suin of five per cont. on the assessed value of real and personal property in said town, in bomb, to the capital stock of tho Carolina, dumberlaud Gap and Chicago Railway Company, according to the provisions of said Act; an election be held on tho 20th day of May, 1885, at Abbeville C. H., in the town of Abbeville, the polls to opon at C o'clock a. ni. and remain open until G o.clock p. m., at which election shall be submitted to the qualified voters of said town the question whether or not the said town of Abbeville, shall subscribe the suin of fivt- per cent, on the assessed value ?^f real and personal property, in bonds, to the capital stock of the Carolina, Cumberland Gap and Chicago Railway Company, according to the provisions of said Act. The said subscription to be made on condition mm the Haul bonds be deposited in some bank in trust and not to bo delivered to the President of the Carolina, Cumberland Gap and Chicago Railway Company, for the benefit of the said road, until tho said road shall be completed to the town of Abbeville C. II., and on tho further condition that said road he completed to Abbeville C. II., on or before the first of January, A. I>. 1888. That, P. H. Speed, J. C. Miller, L. K. Bowie, arc hereby appointed the managers of said election, with full power to hold and conduct the same, count tho votes, declare and certify tho result, according to the laws in force, and the provisions of said Act. That the voting at said eloction shall bo by ballot ; such of the naid voters who desire to vote in favor of said town making the aforesaid subscription, shall vote a boliot having written or printed thoreon tho word "Suuhouiption," such of said voters- who desiro to vote actinst the said subscription shall vote a ballot having written or printed thereon the words "No Suiibciuption." That noticc of said election, stating the the time, place, purpoxu, and form of ballot to bo voted thereat, be published, as by law directed, in the newspapers published in the town of Abbeville, in the County afot;,?::\d, by three weekly insertions in each n?xt previous to the 2U?h dav of May. 1885.
