SUBAOKIPTION $2 00 Annular Hcllpso <>rthe Sun. Oil the l(?th of March will occur an niinular eclipse or the sun, visible in the United States and British America. It is the return of the annular eclipse of February 12th, In IS.'ll the central line passed over Texas in a North easternty direction, bcinir last visible on this continent in parts of Virginia and North Carolina. At this return the path will be much farther North. The ! cclipse will be annular over a line from! Capo Mendocino, California, in latitude 40 degrees to tireenland in latitude 71 J '/ decrees. It is estimated that the eclipse will'be annular over a path about seventy miles wide. The only towns of consequence in the United States within this belt are Kureka, California. and Ho/.e man, Montana. At St. J'aul the eclipse will obscure live-sixths of (lie sun, hut will not ho annular. -At Chicago seventenths of the sun will he hidden. From Rochester, X. V., the ohscuratiou will be somewhat less, but sufficient to render the eclipse a iiio.nI interesting event. The eclipse will he annular, because the cone of the moon's shadow does not roach the earth. It will appear annular it those places nearly in the line of the point of the cone. As was suspected, he left here and went directly to Charleston, arriving there on Saturday morniuir about 0 o'clock. He at once repaired to the wharf and succeeded in effecting arrangements to board a vessel for Liverpool. J>ut before leaving thoughts of his home and his parents came over his gttund and his courage failed, and he decided to return home. He left Charleston on Saturday night and went to Flor- ' ^ once. At that point his money gave t out and lie walked home, lie left Florence on Monday morning, arriving at home last nisrht. lie says that the peo(ilo along his line of travel were very ;ind to him and that he had no trouble in getting plenty to eat. It is strange that he was not recognized and captured, for he says he never pretended to hide or avoid being seen, lie spent fully half a day in Columbia on the streets, and though the police were on the lookout for him he was not recognized.
