MARSHAL. WRIGHT UNDER F1HK.
The Great Bulldozer Korccrt ?o ConA:hs

Conduct of" tltc October Ohio Kleetion.
Cincinnati, January f?.?The Congressional
committee examining into
the appointment of United States deputy
marshals in this city at the Inst
October election resumed the examination
of Marshal Wright this morning.
The general method of questioning was
to re?d the names of the deputies
appointed, one l?y one, and nsk the marshal
if he knew the men, where they
lived and who recommended them.
Follet would ask if the witness did not
know they were thieves, murderers
Hnd ex-convicts just out of jail or the
vrorKiiou.se, anucnargou wun crimes, <yo.
The witness in most cases could not
recollect the persons asked about, lie
said it was possible that some were appointed
who were not recommended at
nil, although his aim was to get men
qualified for the work. In reference to
one colored man lie said that he know
he was reported to he a bad man,'but he j
(iiu not oeneve inai inc reports were (
well founded; at an3- rate he was a man
well qualified to meet the emergency j
which called for the appointment of (
deputies, namely the danger of repeat- j
ing. He was aware that some of bin
men were not strictly pious, 'but in (
making the appointments he had regard
to the elements his deputies would have j
to deal with. lie had never heard of a ,
aingle instance where any deputy had in (
inr w?v iirovontod nnv citir.en from
canting a legal vote.
Follet asked the witness if he did not ,
know some of his deputies were keepers
of " crap houses and low dives." Witness j
replied that he did not kno.v the meaning ,
of those terms. In llie appointment of
so many men in *ucli a short time it
' i
would be difficult to get all with a perfeotly
clear history, %nd still thoy might
Ik; good men for deputy marshals at an
election. Witness repeated that he
made great effort to get good, . ffioient
men. and most of them wcri' such.
Follet asked how many of the six
hundred revolvers distributed had been ]
returned. Witness said between three '
i r 1 i i
aiiu luur uumireu.
"Still,*' said Kollet, *'yon had good j j
men who retained nearly half 3*o\ir re- '
vol vers?'' 1
Witness said he expected to get more i
of these revolvers, yet he admitted hav- J
ing appointed three deputies to serve in >
Reading, which was not a city of 20,<XK) '
inhabitants, and from which, he had no '
written application. In witness's view <

general deputies to every voting place ,
in the Southern Ohio district, but would j
not be entitled to allow them pay for
such nerviee. lie denied having had a 1
consultation with Ilutterworth and J
llrown, or with the Republican com- I
riuttee, except in a casual way. In jjone- '
ral he followod his own judgment. He I
denied that there was a plan agreed J
upon, after consultation, to appoint as 1
many ex-policemen ns possible, which J

plan adopted. Ho took some a<lvice J
aliout tl?o appointments from K. Ci.
Hathhone, of tho pension department,
who was a general deputy of his, having .
been appointed a year or more ago. The
examination of Marshal Wright was not
ended.? Xeics end Courier.

Cincinnati, Ohio, January 5.?The '
investigation of Marshal Wright's conduct
at tho Ohio election in October last,
was hegun to-day by Springer's com in ittot?,
Mr. Springer himself in the chair. I
Marshal Wright was the only witness
to-day. He testified that he had ap- I
pointed many non-resident deputies for
election day, hut that such deputies hail ;
be#n paid from a private fund furnished '
him by unknown parties and not from 1
Government funds. He acknowledged
that he had armed his deputies with 1
bulldog revolvers, 44 calibre, of which
he received 000. with ammunition from
Xew York ou Monday before election
day. He did not know who sent them,
but supposed they came from the He
publican National Committee. He had
told Powell Clayton, of Arkansas, Clatk
son, of low* , *n<l Kern a of St. *T,oiiik,
member* of the Republican National
committee, that ho regarded it an essen- (
Hal that hix deputies should he armed. <
lie had been notified, but lie did not know
by whom, that these weapons would be

appoint one Democratic marshal for each
voting place, but changed his mind, and
appointed none but Republican*. He

Mr. John Pearson 8 Statement.
In the Spring of 1888 I whs attacked with n
very bad cough, which ooutinued to grow
worse until Kail, when I cot so wonk that I
oould not g*t about. I tried a great many
kinds of medicine, but continued to grow
worse. I was notified that I had consumption,
and would probably die. Br. Ilolloway anally
sent to Ward's Store nnti pot a bottle, and 1
commenced taking It rlcht away After taking
two or throo don&s, I began to improve, an?t by
tho time 1 had used np on? bottle I was ahlo io
(tot on nay feet npuln. I am now In excellent
health. I am confident thnt tho Lung Fe%torer
saved my life, and my nvlchbor* aro of tho
same opinion. It la the be*t Lang Komedy
ever medo, In my optnlon. Dr. IT. promised mo
that he would write to the manufacturer* and
tell tliamof tho womlorful cure It made in my
cu.<e.
Statement of Mr.Bcnj.F.Hearndon:
Early in November. Ittl, while sewlnir on the
machine, my wife was taken with a sorer* pain
In her aide, whieh wax noon followed by hemorrhage*
from her lung* and a severe cough.
Fever commenced, she could neither ent nor
sleep, and In a few weeks she was rednco-1 to ?
living skeleton. The attending rhyiiuinn told
me that he thought one of hor lung* was entirely
gone. She oould not retain tho most
delicate nourishment on her stomach. I then
agreed with Dr. Sullivan, my family physician,
to call Dr. Hollowav In consultation. Thrv '
mads a final examination of the patient, and '
pronounced the case hopeless. Dr. Ilolloway 1
then aiifrcoMo.l tho Itrewer's l.ung restorer as ]
a laat resort. I sent for a bottle, and gave her
a dote. I found that ahe could ret*.ln ft on her
stomach, and after about the third riixe T b*enn
to notice aomo Improvement In her condition. i
1 continued the medicine resnlartjr, and by the j
time she had taken two bottles she was able to
walk about the house. She is now ta better 1
health than sbo has enjoyed for several yean.
J believe the Lung Restorer saved her life.
Mr. Hearndon's post-office is Yatosvllle. Up- i

Some years ago one of Mr. LsxJtVD's term
laborese braised hla leg. Owing to the bad
itate of his blood, an ugly scrofulous swelling
or lamp appeared on the injured limb, llorrlblo
itching of the skin, with burning and
Parting pains through the lamp, made life
klmost Intolerable. The leg became snornionily
enlarged, and rannlng ulcers formed,
discharging great quantities of extremely,
offensive matter. No treatment was of any
avail until the man, by Mr. Lulakd's direo?
Hon, was supplied with Aran's Samapa*
rill a, whloh allayed the pain and irritation,
healed the sores, removed the swelling, and
completely restored the limb to use.
Mr. Lelasd has personally used
Ayer s Sarsaparilla
for Rheumatism, with entire sueoees; and,
ifter careful observation, declares that, in

?qual to it for the oare of Lim Dlisiisn,
