The hall was brilliantly lighted and waxed to sliile the clumsiest, and ttiv music by I'ishburn's band of Augusta, was equal to the strains of Orpheus' lute, in its effect upon the gav dancers who wore gracefully gliding, indulging joyously in the "poetry of motion.'' The Troy Social Cluh h;nl circulated most exquisitely designed cards of invitation to various parts of the country Hiid the adjoining county of Kdgefield * nnd there upon the line of these two chivalric counties, always famed for their lovely women ami for their nohle manhood, upon whose brow fear or Khamc are alike ashamed to sit, was gathered this beautiful and gallant assembly, which in magnilicent display nnd graceful ease is seldom excelled. It is ennobling to frail human nature to entertain even for a. moment, the angel presence of a generous emotion, ami such inspiring occasions present the lovely scene of stern valor yielding to nothing in the wide world but tho approving smiles of the sweetest of women. Those who perchance waste the golden hours of time in fruitless invective against tho devotees of the dance should not lose sight of this feature, but rather teach their boys to be brave and their girls to be pure ami association in this pleasant way will be mutually inspiring. ? Ward law elected Chairman. A permanent organization was then effected under the name of the "Abbeville Club," with the following officers : President, H. T. Wardlaw ; Yice-President, W. C. McGowan ; Secretary and Treasurer, T. I*. wothran. An Executive Committee was elected consisting of O. T. Calhoun, M. L. Honham, .Jr., J. W. Head, S. D. Lowry, DuPre Calhoun and the above officers e.\-of!icio. Committees on arrangements and invitation were appointed to make the Holiday Hall on the 29 th of December a grand success. ' Oh last Saturday night Lewis Williams and his wife died on Capt. II, Brooks' placp, about six miles from Ninety-Six, their deaths occurring within an hour of each other. Lewis was ivn exceptionable good negro, paying it i# said, twenty-five b.?b;s of cotton rent, and running a personal account with our merchants of about fifteen hundred dollars. Polite, thrifty, peaceable and industrious, his death was a greater loss to the agricultural interest of his neighborhood than the exodus of a car load of commo i negroes. About half-past twelve o'clock Saturday night the alarm of lire was raised and in a short time brought a crowd to the drug store of \V. S. Cothran & Co. The room was full <>f smoke but a few buckets of water well directed extin^ guished the lire and the crowd dispers. ed. The origin of the tire was accidental. The stove* had liePll olentied mit \ Friday and the ashes thrown into a wooden box near l>y. In the box the coals ha<l smouldered until Saturday night and when discovered, the lire had hurnt through the box and lloor and had I fallen into the cellar below, where in a short time it would have ignited some ' old boxes filled with hay and caused a considerable tire. Nance, who made an eloquent and soul-stirring speech at Due West, on November 1st, on the occasion of the big meeting there, and will regret to hear that ho died suddenly on . Monday 3rd ios?ant. Major Nance was a gallant officer of the 3rd S. C. llegi- i mont, and was a brother of our fellowcitizen, F. W. II. Nance and Drayton It. Nance. When we saw hi 111 in Due West hi? had been called thither by the . illness of his brother Drayton. But death came to him first. But now in less than a week after the death of Major Nance, we must chronicle that of i his brother Drayton, who died of con- i sumption, on Sunday, at his home near < Due West. His j daughter Kugenin. whose household name was Dcnni. lovely in person, beautiful in character and idolized by those who ktic\}* her, departed this life on December 5. 1SS4. She was born on August 8th. ltt(>7. and though young, had 1 long e'er the final hour came, made her peace with (rod. We arc assured by those who were with h<?r that death for her had no terror. She had put her ( house in order,and with the calmness and < consciousness of one who feeds her sins i forgiven, she awaited the summons that | called her soul into the presence of God. Wgti'HI'ka, Ai.a., Sept. 2S, 1881.-About six years ago I became nillicted with a very disagreeable skin disease, with large, dry sores and many crusted pimples on my face, hands and shoulder. The soro on my shoiilner cat out a hole nearly an inch deep, and the cancerous up pea ranee of one of (he sores near my eye alarmed me very much. I tried allkirds of treal menl, but found nothing that seemed to affect the disease. 1 finally decided to try S. S. S. on advice ol' a physician, and in a short time the scabs dropped from the sores and left my bkin smooth mid well. I consider S. S. S. the greatest blond medicine mode, and the only thing that will cure the disease with which I was afflictcd. I think my trouble was the result of a terrible at tack of malarial fever, eontractcd while tanning iu the Tallapoosa ri\er swamp. 1 can be found at inv office in the court house at \Vetumpka.
