Please explain how much would orphans,7 minors or any one interested in suoh small estates get, when the Editor, Sher Iff, Clerk and lawyers got so much under the former law? Whore is the food, clothing andgother com forts? Who gets them? Not the heirs of that small estate. But under the law passed by the last General Assembly or numibsculls as you calls, there is food for all, and not a few gets all. I thought the intention of the law was to protect the weak. Why should we maintain a law that gives the shoriff, olerk, lawyer and printer all of tboso small estates all ever this State? I have very much respeet for the above named professions and officers, but at the same time I have .sympathy for the orphans and heirs (f small estates. I do not think they should he robbed by legislation becauso theyr are suall estates. I would to God tbat there were moro of them in this country. ;,Tho people would bo better contented, bappier and more social.. You say it cost as much to set kle up and partition out an estate worth $6 as it does to settle up a $6,000 estate. According to this theory the county should tax every body alike, for it takes as much time and paper to write a return for a man that returne $5 as one that returns;$5,000. and the samo size receipts. "We suppose the Legislature wanted,to have the honor of rodue ing expenses, but we fail to so whero they aro'reduced at'-Sentincl Why is the Editor of tho Bonti nel kicking? Is not the foo bill a tax on estate that have to be set tIed up? The heirs of those small edtates can feel whore the tax is lowered. Tho same power that legislated tho fee bill in belinif of those editors and oflcers saw fit to legislate a little sympathy in bohalf of the small estato, for it Booms that it is the only way sympathy faln be9 get. il somO of those. It think I undlortanid the intent of the Editor of tho Sentinal injhis slang at the last legislature. It is iuch the last legislature as now in session, that if the is not changed back to the they will have the same asigppiiodl to them. We will wait to eoO it they con.. aon t to 16 bingii re[)Oaledl. 10 is a very commion thing for eidi tors to crac~k their editorial wvhips over the heads of the peoopls Sor.Vantis. Yo)u say if they wanted to low. or' taxation they should have low sred the stato appropriationis. I waut to xiform the editor of the Sentinel that the two last ses slons of th&tenore. as~emwyf. 'o which I had the honor of being a metmbor, did reduce the appropri ations considerably, but the senate put the appropriatisns back to their tormuer standing with a few Sx cepti ons. I cast my vote to rednec the ex pese of tie state, so that the tax -s would be lowyer. I give my mp iport in reducing the fee bill so that the heirs of small estates vould not be deprivod of all their >art. I suppose if the state ap >ropriation had been reduced the 'rofessors and Beneficiaries of hose higher appropriations would Inv. appiled the terms jackasses ,od numeculls. It seems as if it is 'qdamnned if you do and bedamned f you don't. I must con fess that ho legislaturo of 1897 aud 1898, did( ot consider a few privileged claia s, but took into oideration, theI ikhole people. Joel H-. Miller,. JOIN GAR~Y EVANS1. Mxa j. Glen.
