Miss Annie MoBee, of Green ville, is visiting Miss Essie Earle this week. Mrs. Reese* Bowen, Sr., is quite fooble,- suffering from nervous prostration. W.. 0. Singleton, of Anderson county, was in town Monday among his old friends. Miss Hattie Grady, who has boon visiting in Pendleton, returned home this week. Miss Cora Bowen is visiting rela tivos and friends at Groves in Grenville county. Miss Blessie Shanklin and Miss Jennie Gant, of Pendleton, are vis itingMiss Hattie Grady. Rev. 0. L. Durant has had a badly crippled horse from sticking a nail in one of his hind feet. W. T. Robinson, of Dawson ville, Ga., is visiting his uncle, Mr. Reese Bowen, Sr., noar town. W. R. and Mrs. S. G. Oats have qualified as administrators of tho estato of Thomas Watson, deceasd. Mr. W. W. Martin, of Milo Creek, moved to his property in the southern portion of town last Tuesday. Mr. Matthew Brazeale and Miss Jeannette Austin, of Willinm sto'n, visited the family of Dr. G. W. Earle last wook. Married on the 13th at the resi donce of the brido, Mr. John M. Barr to Miss Mary Johnston, Rev. J. T. Anderson, officiating. rs. Permelia Hunt, of Mount Carmel neighborhood, who was reported last week as seriously ill, is considered to be improving. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Smith, nee Miss Jessie Richoy, of Cross Anchor, Spartanburg county, vis ited the family of the lattars un CIO, H. A. Richey, last week. The members of Six Mile church cannot be discouraged; fire de stroyed the church building, but they have gone to wvork and now have the frame up for another. Rev. Tr. J. Rooke has been con ducting an interesting meeting at G-i'ffin church. There were six added to the church, who will be baptised on the 2nd Snnday in September. Died on the 17th instant, at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Galloway, their infant. The child was about six months old, and was buried from the Iholly Spring Bap tist church. Rev. W. C. Seaborn began a protractod meeting at Cross Roads Sunday and has services twice a day, at 11 o'clock, a. in., and at early candle light. Much interest is manifested and the prospects are promising for good results. Dr. G. WV. Earle reports good health genierally in and around Pickens, but warns the citizens to be careful and look after the sani tory conditions about their prom ises, as fever may come after the p~tracted rains during the hot wveather. WV. A. Lark, of Maynard, was before commissioner Thornley, Monday, to answer the charge of retailing spiritous liquor without paying the special licens,- Mr. Lark wvas dlischarged and is happy in that fact and, also, because he knows the informer. Rev. W. B. Singleton closed his protracted meeting at Mount Car mel last Thursday on account of rain and will resume it on Friday beforo the 2nd Sunday in Septem ber. Hagood, Esq., of Charles ton is spending a short vacation with relativos and friends in Pick Ons. Mr. and Mrs. V. S. Hunter, anId chiildron, aro visiting the fai ily of Maj. John J. Lewis this wook. Dr. Riley will begin a protrac ted meeting in the Pickens Pres bytorian church next Friday night. Tho re-flooring of Farrs' Bridge on Saluda will bo lot to the 'owost bidder on the 29th instant at said bridge. Charles L. Cureton, who has been at Pacolot for the past eight months, is at hionie on a short va cation. W. T. Field, W. T. Bowen and I. F. Smith were elected Tuesday dolegates to the constitutional con vention. There will be a picnic at Roa noke school houso on the afternoon of tho 24th instant. Evorybody cordially invited to attend. The repoated rains of lato have caused farmors some apprehen sions, lest there should becomo a froshet and damego the bottom corn. There were eighty votes polled for the regular nominees for the constitutional convention, on last Tuesday, at the Pickens C. HI. pro cinct. Miss Essic Earlo gave a sociable last Monday night in honor of her friend, Miss Annie McBee, which was delightfully enjoyed by those prosenit. Our council will have to boC overhauled again as the intendant, W. 0. Willaird, and one wardon, D. J. Greer, has pulled out so therc will have to be another election to fill vacancies.
