JUNE 10, 1884.
Dear Journal: As good things happen
some tine or other to every one. so we have
had a good time, and I thought it so good I
would tell your many readers about it. It
happened oil this wise, June 15th, (yester
day,) was uncle George's birtluday-o Mr.
Silis F. Robinson and his wife, Mrs. Mar
tha Robinson, (with whom Uncle George
boarded,) concluded to have a re-union of
their two families, and give him a birthday
dinner. At an early hour the guests began
to arrive. By 2 o'clock more than three
score of persons had assonibled. The guests
were entertained by music furnished on
the orgin by Misses Tabitha Hendrix, Hat
tie Robinson, Mary Siugleton, Ella Single
ton, and Mr. G. F. Jones and others, while
the young people engaged in singing, very
much to the entertainment of all.
At noon the birthday dinner was set, the
boll rang and all were invited to come and
eat and be filled of the good things under
which that table fairly groaned. A look at
it did not show any signs of hard times.
There was an abundance of ham, beef,
chicken, cakes, pies, etc., prepared in the
best style known to the cullinary art, to
which we all did justice. We were regaled
and cooled throughout the day with ice
water.
We chatted and auused oursIvem until 3
o'clock, when we were again called into tle
dining room where buckets of ice lemon
ade were placed on the table, with dippers
in them, and all were invited to drink, which
we did to our entire satisfactionl.
A best ride on the Saluda river being pro
posed, was accepted by some fifteen or
twenty of the young folks, who enjoyed a
straw ride to the river, where we frolicked
two or three hours on its placid waters.
Having returned to the holse the shades
of night just approaching, we took our leave
of our kind host and hostess, and uncle
George (of course I maan uncle George W.
Singleton, for we all call hilm uncle George,)
wishiig telim a long, prosperous and happy
life, and that they n1ay have miiany faimily
re-unions and )irthl day dinners, and that
we may be there to enjoy it with thoem.
We all departed for our homes, feeling that
we had a good time all around. The next
one I attend I will tell you about it too.
