PICK SPIVEY
FOR OFFICE
Group Six Bankers convention is
now history. The annual meeting of
Gryup Siv, held this week at Myrtle
Beach, was the best meeting Group j
Six has held in the opinion of those
who attended. The meeting opened
Tuesday evening of last week with a
grand reception given by the Conway
Clearing Hou>e association at the
Myrtle Beach Yacht club. It was a
brilliant spectacle.
The spacious halls of the Yacht
club tastefully decorated and brilliantly
lighted were beautiful. The visiting
bankers with their wives and
daughters and local ladies and gentlemen
thronged the club until a late
hour. Old friends were greeted and
many new friendships made.
This splendid reception opened the
season at Myrtle Beach and will long
be remembered by those who were so
fortunate as to be there.
Wednesday morning the business
sessions of the convention began. After
the invocation by Rev. NofT, of
Mullins, addresses were made by
Mayor Suggs of Conway, and Col. D.
A. Spivey of the Peoples National
Bank of Conway, welcoming the visity.
Appropriate responses were made.
A number of splendid addresses followed
on subjects of interest to the
bankers. Several very interesting resolutions
were passed at this meeting.
One resolution to make Myrtle Bench
the permanent meeting place for
Group Six of the Bankers Association;
another provides that all banks
be asked to declare the day of the annual
meeting a holiday so that all
connected with the banks might be
able to attend these meetings.
Another resolution, and the one of
most interest to Conway and Horry
County citizens was one endorsing
Col. D. A. Spivey of the Peoples Bank
of Conway for vice-president of the
South Carolina Bankers' Association.
The people of Horry feel that this is a
deserved honor to Col. Spivey and
that the Bankers Association
will make no mistake in elevating j
Col. Spivey to this position of honor.
Col. Spivey has been identified with
the banking interests of Horry all of
his business life and stands at the
head of his chosen field.
At 1:30 the business meeting adjourned
and a splendid course luncheon
was served at the Yacht club. A
short business session was held after
the luncheon when the meeting adjourned.
Members soon began to leave
and soon the 1923 meeting of Group
Six had passed into history.
