O The tobacco crops of Horry County are doing well. They bid fair to produce the biggest crop yet raised on the sand hills of the county. The season when it is harvested and sold will soon be here. o Jail sentences have "not put a stop to whiskey making and whiskey selling. While keeping up that plan as being the best thing so far found, we must hunt for something else to apply as a solution of the problem. o This section of South Carolina has made a good start in the sweet potato industry. All that we need do is to keep it up only with increased facilities for handling the crop. A demand for our product has been created in other sections of the country, and it will be an increasing demand from this time on provided we do not get careless and allow some other section to forge ahead of us. The Baptists as well las the Methodists have selected our county as best place for an annual gathering. ' ---v^J^ast year the South Carolina Press Association and Calhoun Highway Association held meetings at our beach. Each year seems to add to the number of organizations which favor Myrtle Beach as a place to hold the important special meetings, or the regular .annual meetings of the body. In this there is a great gateway of opportunity for this county. Such an opportunity should not be neglected but should be grasped with all of the zeal that is now being shown by the sections of the country where there are special inducements to bring the people ifrom other sections. In the intervening hour of darkness, however, Rogers escaped. The cabin was surrounded at dawn and searched, but the killer had vanished. Seen in Skiff. A half hour later an armed outpost at a Temiskaming and Northern Ontario Railway crossing saw Rogers slip from the woods onto the rightof-way and challenged him. The bandit answered with shots from an automatic pistol. The guard returned with rifle, but missed. Reports this afternoon said Rogers had been seen at 6 A. M. leaving a skiff on the shore of Lake Nipissing and breaking into the woods ten miles from North Bay. DR. BURROUGHS BACK AT WORK Dr. H. H. Burroughs has been back in active practice for several days. He was able to attend as many as ten calls only a few days ago. Dr. Burroughs suffered an accident in 1922, from which he nearly lost his memory. He was returning home from a trip to see patients in the country. As he was turning his auto mobile through a rough piece of ro^d the machine ran into a bad hole that he did not know was there and the doctor was thrown with great violence against the framework of the top and side. He received a blow on the head, which it is believed, slightly fractured the bones. The people of the Pine Grove school district No. 16 are very much elated over our new school building. We have a nice five-room . building with a large auditorium on the ground & floor. The district as a whole is under many obligations to our trustees and also to the contractors for the splendid manner in which they have carried on the work. I think they deserve special mention. S. E. Williamson, A. R. Shelley and F. E. Floyd are the trustees and Brown & S. F. Floyd are the contractors. 4P*/ We have just closed an eight-month term of school and are very fortunate in securing the services of Miss Essie Durham, of Green Sea as principal for the second term. The Co-operative Marketing Association don't seem to be growing very rapidly in our community. It takes too long to sell out and check off the crop. Rev. W. J.
