C., spent a short time in Horry County last week on business. They are officers of the Smith Creek Stave & Lumber Co., with offices at New Bern, and mills in various sections of North and South Carolina. ****** At the present time there are small ground mills at dilTerent points in this section making money by cutting1 and manufacturing luml)er out of small trees growing on isolated tracts. This could not have been *done some years ago when timber was much more plentiful than it is today. * * * * The brick walls on the new building for A. C. Thompson on the corner of Fourth avenue and Laurel street, not. a good start upward last week. This building will be used, it is said, for the livestock business of which Mr. Thompson is the business head, while the present quarters of the livestock company will be available as a place for an independent tobacco warehouse. o ANOTHER PICNIC There will be a picnic and children's day at Cool Spring church May 26th, 1023. W. H. Doy tl sustained a painful injury to his leg, which was mashed and bruised, while E. O. Sarvis was hurt in the arm and shoulder. The car lost two wheels and the radius rods as well as a lot of minor parts. o CARD OF THANKS We thank our kind friends again and again for their goodness to us during the illness, death and burial of our darling little daughter, Ruby Lee, who was born July 11th, 1921. and departed this life May 8th, 1023, for the blessed eternal life beyond. Benetato, the Greek restaurant keoper, for fixtures which will he used by him, it is said, in opening a new meat market in one of the new building' just completed by the Burroughs & Collins Company, in the rear of the Conway Trading Company. The purchase included a refrigerator, sanitary counter, scales and othei fixtures. o FARMERS' MEETING JUNE 4TH All farmers and growers of farm products in Horry County are request ed to attend a mass meeting at the court house in Conway on Monday June 4th next, at 12 noon. L. Ford and M iss Jones I gave the seventh grade of the Burroughs school a fine little outing on last Tuesday afternoon. The children assembled at the school house at 3 o'clock and were carried by automobiles to the place selected and after playing many games and having lots of fun, they decided the next best thing to do was eat. Goldstein is the proprietor, was opened to the public last Saturday, May 19th. It is located in the new store of the Spivey block, on the eastward side of Main street, and the store is the last one in the row near the alley which runs from Main street down to the jraraure of Col. D. A. Spivey. Mux Goldstein is well-known in Georgetown, where for rrviny years he has been connected with one of the oldest mercantile establishments of that town. He has had long: experience in the dry goods business. ? '\J A street that is built up with clay and sand can be plowed and raked until it presents a fairly smooth appearance but this does not keep for very long-.
