Several parties of people from Marion
County to Horry recently to hear
the speeches of Governor Thos. G.
McLeod. The Governor delivered
three speeches in Conway and one at
Myrtle Beach while he was here.

It is said that the raising of strawberries
has grown in acreage, not
only in this immediate . community,
but almost all of the little stations
along the railroads in this county. In
the course of time we believe that
Horry County will be brought back
into the former status of the place as
a shipper of fine fruit.

BASEBALL GAME
The baseball season opened at Aynor
on last Friday afternoon with
the Horry Industrial '-School playing
Allen. It was a nip and tuck affair,
both sides playing some .Rood and
some poor baseball. At trrl 'fend of
the ninth inning the score was 6-6.
In the .tenth inning the Allen team
pushed over two scores, while the
high school boys were unable to reach
first base. Teddie Ludlam made a
sensational catch in left field and completed
a double play at first by a perfect
throw to that base. A. Allen
batted well for Allen, as did Davis.
Scoggin, Carmichael, Floyd and Lewis
were the best for the H. I.S. !

S. S. CONVENTION AT AYNOR
The convention for the second district
of the county will be held with
the Aynor Baptist church on the fifth
Sunday afternoon, April 29th.
This is the interdenominational
work and we want every Sunday j
school in this section to be represented
there. The convention will convene
at 2:30 o'clock and there will be an j
interesting: program carried out. For

load of shot entered the little fellow's
body and caused instant death, going
in at one of the most vital points near
the spinal connection between the
cord and the brain. There was a
number of shot in the back of the
chair and there was blood on the
chair.
After the shell had been, found the
accused boy made a full confession of
his deed. He then said that he and
his little brother had a falling out
while at play in the yard: that the little
boy struck him and that he then
went into the house and got a shell
from over the window where tfie shell
had been placed to t-eep them away
from the children; had taken down th*
gun and unbreeched the same, and
that he had placed the shell in the
gun and shot his brother who had followed
him into the house.
The boy defendant was placed under
arrest- and brought to Conway,
where his grandfather retained S. C.
Dusenbury, of the Conway bar, to take
up the matter of bail before Judge
Townsend in Marion on yesterday.

The Hayes family appear to belong
to some dark-skinned race, such as
the Croatans, of Nortji Carolina, some
descendants, perhaps of some tribe or
other of the American Indian.
They came to this county from some
place in North Carolina to take up
share cropping on the Fred Chestniit
place.

Chamber of Commerce will be held
Thursday evening at 6 o'clock in the
town hall. The purpose of this meet" ?

It is believed that this convention
can be secured if the business people
of Conway want it and . are willing: to
make the necessary effort to bring the
convention here.
The "Victory Highway," 3,200-mile
transcontinental road, will pass

headquarters of the American
Legion, it has been announced. The
road will be suitably marked with
shafts in memory of the war dead, to
be erected by many Legion posts and
patriotic citizens of the community
through which the highway passes.
