the toys and other Christmas
foods that attract the eye in the windows.

in the eastern part of South
Carolina, and its gradual spread during
the next year or two into eastern

Warren Johnson, while on the way
to attend a party near Gallivants
Ferry, on Thanksgiving: Day, had a
gasoline connection to come loose on
his car and when this caught on fire
probably from the exhaust of the engine,
or defective wiring, the driver

'Latter, when he arrived at the party,
leaving his car parked near the
house, some boys slipped his cushion
away. At last accounts the cushion
had not been recovered.

CHAMBER ACTS
The Conway Chamber of Commerce
had its annual supper at the City
Hall early last week, and thus began
its winter program of work for ttle
upbuilding of the town and county.
The main thintr cr?nvlr1?v?<l of
first or opening- meeting- of the chamber
was the participation of the body
in the work of Educational Week,
which lasted from December 3rd to
the 9th.
They laid out a regular program of
speaking at different points in the
countv and sent speakers to each of
'he school districts in an effort to enthuse
the people in the cause of education.

PASSES AWAY
W. D. Collins, an aped and respected
citizen of Floyds Township, died
at his home on November 3rd, having
attained his seventy-sixth yeai
three davs before^ the time of his
death. The interment took place at
Strickland graveyard. Mr. Collins is
survived by the followng children: P
A. Collins, of Cairo, Ga.; French and
Guthrie Collins, two sone who live at
Rocky Mount, N. C.; Mrs. Mary
Hooks. Mrs. Fannie Strickland; John
L. Collins, P. H. Collins; Monroe Collins.
and Claudia Collins, all of Horry
County; and another son. Oliver
Collins, who lives in Florida.
Mr. Collins was a veteran of the
War Between the States, and a faithful
and consistent member of Pleasant
View Church. He is remembered
a? being one of the best citizens that

mayor and aldermen for the ensuing
municipal year, beginning: on January

The present encumbent, who was
reelected last December as Mayor of
Conway declined to run for another

When the lists closed last Monday
