The sheriff did not mean for > another bad negro to get him and in - attempting to arrest Jim Green, in Marion County last week, when the - negro tried to shoot the sheriff, the - latter was the quickest and Jim 1 Green paid the penalty with his life. The negro was a desperate charac>. ter and died on Sunday before last t from the effects of the wounds re? ceived. He continued to shoot after !. he had been shot down by the officers. DIAL. o CON W A Y-G EORG ETO W N The Georgetown aggregation were conveyed from Georgetown to Conway on the stenmship "Comanche" on November third for the purpose c-f | playing the notorious Conway eleven., They were met at the boat by members of the Conway team and car-' ried directly to the field. The game was called at 4 o'clock sharp. Georgetown won the tr.s-;, but they gave Captain Holliday his choice by electing to kick. Captain Holliday received the kickoff on his ten-yard line. He brought the ball out to the thirty yard line and then fumbled when he was tackled. Georgetown recovered and finally made a touch-down. On the next kick-off Captain Holliday redeemed himself by receiving the kick-otT and carrying it through the entire Georgetown team for a gain of sixty yards. Conway then they went down Ihc field one foot of Georgetown's goal but they lacked the necessary punch to carry it over. This was repeated four times but Georgetown tightened down each time and refused to let the Conway eleven gain the extra foot. The visitors were outplayed in every phase of the game and especially in forward passing. About every attempt Conway made to pass was completed and it seemed as if Jack Burroughs could not miss. Something he has never been known to do before. The Conway team gained three times as much! ground as Georgetown but two costly fumbles for Conway lost the game I for her. In the last few minutes of play Conway went from her own five-yard line to Georgetown's ten. If the game had lasted two minutes longer the results would have probably been very different. COUNTY COURT THOUGHT LOST The vote on the question of the county court, at the Conway precinct, went ninety-five in favor of the court and twenty-five against the proposition. It was believed that the court would get the largest vote at Conway rnd that the vote at nany or' the other precincts of the county would be solid against the establishment of ihe county court. At a late hour on Wednesday, following the election, no definite figures could be obtained from the outlaying nreoinots of rho rnnniu If was a general election ami the interest manifested in it was not what it should have bejn. Owing to the slowness of sending in the reports from all of the precincts it may be n^xt week .. me t?me before the exact ?i,?uros on the vote for the county court can be tabulated. It is believed that the piop< s;uon is lost. This belief comes about by reason of the opposition that developed to the establishment o* the court in almost all parts cf he county except Conway where the objects of the court appeared to be much better understood than in other parts of Horry.
