QBITUARY
Alexander Outlaw was bom in
forth Carolina April 3rd, 182G, and
:ed at his home in the Socastee secion
of Horry County, South Caroina,
August 30th, 1922.
Mr. Outlaw was in Franklin, N. C.,
ittending a military school at that
ilace when the War Between the
he States began. He volunteered for
service on the Southern side and
ierved faithfully during the four
'ears of this great struggle.
He was wounded four times and
vas present when General R. E. Lee
surrendered to General Grant at Appomattox.
After the war Mr. Outlaw returned
;o his home in North Carolina and
emained there one year, when he re- ;
noved to South Carolina and worked
urpentine for the late Joseph Hollilay
.at Galivant's Ferry, S. C., one
;ear after which he moved to Galveson,
Texas, remaining there two years.
^ rie then returned to Galivant's |
'eiry and worked turpentine for Mr. I
Holliday for several years. !
Mr. Outlaw was a turpentine over- \
:eer until about twenty years ag:o. '
>ince that time he has lived on his 1
'arm at Socastee.
For a number of years prior to his
ieath he was a member of Socastee
M. E. Church, South.
About ten years ag:o the writer
irst met him and became his pastor,
tfe was a faithful friend and brother.
\s his pastor 1 frequently visited his
lome and I rarely ever left his home
without carrying' away some tangnile
evidence of his love and esteem.
During: his last and long: illness of
;hree months, he awaited eagerly for
Lhe visits of his pastor.
Mr. Outlaw had the love and respect
)f all his neighbors. During: the ten
years that the writer has known him
le does not recall ever having: he>d
inyone make an uncomplimentary renark
about Alexander Outlaw.
Five of his children preceeded him
:o the grave. He leaves his wife,
hree sons and three daughters to
nourn the departure of husband and
'ather. But they weep not those
A'ho have no hope for in addition to
.he g:ood record of his long: life he
;old them a few days before his death
that he was ready to die.
The funeral services were conducted
>y the writer at Socastee Church /.ie
rlay following: his death and loving:
lands laid his body to rest in the
cemetery by the church to await the
morning: of the Resurrection.
